Earlier in the year I built a 16" upper because shooting a braceless 10.5" wasn’t my cup of tea. The barrel and handguard were both PSA products. While my gun loves Tula, it also trends toward the typical 1.5-2" MOA. Still fun to train/plink with.
For hunting purposes, I picked up some Prvi Partizan soft points, along with some Prvi FMJs to see how much more accurate they were than Tula or Norma (which this thing also loves).
The one-hole group pictured is from a custom Remington 700 shooting Federal 168 gr BTHPs at 100 yards from a bipod and rear shooting bag. It’s a duty rifle- I’ve had a bit of training and trigger time on it. Was still surprised at that group, lol.
The other picture was from my KS47, shooting at 100 yards from the prone using a shooting bag as a rest. The three stray rounds were the FMJs; the three in the center were the soft points, fired after the first three FMJs.
Needless to say, I’m impressed not only with PSA’s build quality, but also the surprisingly affordable (and functional!) accuracy of the Prvi hunting rounds. Highly recommend you try them if you’re looking for hunting/defense ammunition.
None. Admittedly, I didn’t shoot beyond those three rounds. I believe the feed ramp to the KS barrel is friendly with the round points. I’ve actually not had any feed issues with Tula, Norma, Prvi, or Winchester.
Believe it or not, the scope is the Vortex Sonora that PSA was including for free with the Vortex scope mount. That’s a SPARC-AR mounted with it.
The scope sucks- not gonna lie. Still effective…just a little blurry at 100 yards at full magnification. Think it’s more of a parallax issue than anything. Grass at 50 yards was crystal clear at full power. Had zero problems hitting c-zone steel at 175 yards at full power with about 3/4 second splits. And that was with Tula ammo, lol.
I was looking at the PPU ammo and saw 2 different sp bullets, the PSP and the round nose. Which were you shooting? That round nose looks like it would be good pig medicine!
I shoot the 308 PPU 150gr SP in my Ruger 77 and my PA10. 1 inch groups all day with the Ruger, a little bigger groups with the PA10. Never had a jam, FTF, FTE. I have taken over 20 whitetails with that ammo. No surprise that the 7.62X39 works good for you.
PS–do you detect a different aroma when shooting PPU, has a distinctive odor.
I ran mine pretty hard a few weeks ago, put maybe 200 rounds of Tula 123gr through it over the span of thirty minutes. Some were hammer pairs, some strings of rapid fire, few target transitions. Was primarily curious to see how it would handle the rate of fire. Had one fail to fire- no issues feeding or ejecting. What sort of problems is yours giving you?
At first it was perfect and I was amazed at the accuracy out to 100 yds - literally touching or within 1MOA using “cheap” / non-match AK ammo. I’ve just loved the KS47 and have been so desperate to get the KS74 with the FN CHF barrel… Over the last 4-5 range trips I’ve taken friends (first time shooters) and would make sure to bring the KS47 but within a few shots or less it would experience FTE problems. Some easily cleared but the 16" gets stuck and I have to mortar it to get the casing out. I’m pretty sure it’s the ejector based on another post / reply I received and seems to make sense. I’ve cleaned, bore brushed the chamber, scoped it out and there’s just no explanation in my mind why the casing gets stuck.
