PSA 8.5” 300 Blackout AR15 pistol brace

I purchased an 8.5” PSA AR-15 300 Blackout pistol that came with a Shockwave brace. Not impressed with the brace. Wondering if a SBA 3 pistol brace is better and if so, can I just buy the brace or do I need a buffer tube and other stuff as well to make it work. And also, is it worth the money?

IIRC you’ll need a “Brace Adapter” faux buffer-tube to mount the SBA3.

You will need a new buffer tube as the SBA3 uses a standard and the KAK blade uses a proprietary…unless it is the new style blade that uses a standard mil spec buffer tube.

Whut tha… I’ve been reading too many JAKL threads, or somethin’… I totally read the OP as having a JAKL pistol in .300BLK, and a reread sez a PSA AR…

Brainworms.

That’s my Story, and I’m Sticking To It!

This started as a PSA build kit a few years ago. All you need is a standard buffer tube for the SBA3. Get after it!

I’ve never been a big fan of AR pistols in general, but that is a very nicely done build. Perfectly picked accents and accessories.

Thanks Don! My only regret is going cheap with the folding adaptor a few years ago. I have a Law Tactical now but I’m too lazy to disassemble and trade parts, LOL! The Gemtech suppressor is a dream! It fits perfectly tucked into the rail and is as quiet as my .22LR

Hey, relatively new, but im wondering what did you need to buy for that brace? I want to replace my brace and make it folding, and i love that setup

If I’m understanding your question and you already have brace set up for your AR pistol, all you need to do is buy the Law Tactical folding brace and attach it to your receiver extension. Nothing additional needed.

Welcome to the forum!!!

Thanks!! And no, my 8.5 at this point is completely stock. So i just need the sba3 and a new buffer tube, as well as the folding adapter? And thanks for such a quick response

Post a picture so we can be sure what you need.

Thanks. Being new to this, i dont always know the right info to give, or the right questions to ask

@eddionne83

@eddionne83 it looks like you have a KAK blade.

If yours has a set screw that is used to adjust the stock/lock it in position, then you need the following:

LAW tactical folder

LAWs are expensive. There are cheaper options. However, i have seen some of the cheaper options break because they are not as stout as the LAW.

If you want a brace that adjusts on the fly (i.e. you dont need a wrench like your current set up), then you need a new standard mil-spec buffer tube and a brace like the SBA 3 or 4 or 5.

Final note: looks like your castle nut is staked. You will have to undo the staking before it will come off.

Wow, great! Thanks for the info. As for the folding adapter, I have read this before and will be going with a Law Tactical.

welcome

I ended up with a similar setup, minus the LAW folder.

Inside of the dust cover is marked 300 BLK and gen 3 Pmags for said cartridge are in use.
As of now the lower shares some uppers.
Ambi fire selector & charging handle.

Here’s my 300BO pistol and my AR9

AR9 recently reconfigured

Hello all, I understand this is an older post, but the new Gen s law tactical folder has been released.

Do you need the following tools to do the installation?

Lower alignment tool with a Geissele reaction block to keep the receiver extension perfectly aligned while torquing and staking the castle nut.

Brownells has a good installation video.

Also I’d like to add the sba3 stock. Would anyone have a link to the buffer tube needed for it?

Thanks
