I had AK103 and for awhile now, just been ignoring this, but now its getting to be a pain. Other then magpul mags with plastic tabs, I can not get any other mags to lock in; from old tapco, plastic pro mags, metal Bulgarian, Bakelite replica with bolt stop follower, or even Magpul with metal taps. None of those will lock in but some will come close to locking in. Is there an easy fix or is their some filing I could do to mags or tab that could fix this?

File them. The only mags i havent filed the tabs on are the PSA slabside mags.

This Guy has a great picture where to file on an AK mag - it’s near the bottom of this blog in the comments section. Just a note to remember: File as little as possible.

Following up, I had to file pmags to fit an arsenal in 5.45, and it’s buttery smooth now, great lock up. As has been said, little by little. Just kiss it and test fit.

The US Palm fit the magwell without issue but rattle side to side. The US Palm clear mags needed a little sanding on the tab before they would fit but once that was done fit tight without any rattle. Magpul MOE 30 rounders fit perfectly out of the bag. I’ve ordered some Bulgarian 30s and waiting to see how they work.
For my GF3 I had to file US Palm mags (on the backside where the mag release is) just a little bit and they work perfectly. Bulgarian mags worked by default.
The PMAGs are super rattley and a little loose, but otherwise work fine. Mag fitting is easy just take your time and file a little at a time. For me it’s always been on the backside metal knob where it makes contact with the mag release.

I recently got a PSA AK103, and a batch of the Croatian magazines. All had feeding problems. On the feed lips I found a very sharp point st the front edge that was catching the rounds and hanging them up. I took each magazine apart an filed off and rounded the sharp point. They work a lot better now,
BTW, all of them inserted an locked into my rifle when I got them.

Fitting mags is a normal thing in the AK world.

The “filed” magazines seem to feed properly. A few minutes work for each one makes them well worth the price.
