Pmags getting stuck GF3

So my AK47 finally arrived and I went to pick it up today. I noticed the magazine that came with it is a magpul pmag 30 for Aks, so I went and bought 3 more. I opened them up and inserted them one at a time and they just kept getting stuck, then I noticed the magazine that came with the AK had been filed down a bit. Fortunately this is something my mini dremel can handle easily, but I wanted to ask how much PSA sands off of pmags for their AKs.

Does anyone have a general estimation or advice?

Thanks!

Sand a little and try. Magpul mags unfortunately are made to fit as many weapons as possible and often need sanding. I had to do the same on my 308 pmags.

I also had to file down pmags for my not-PSA 74 (before they were a thing). But a hand-fitted pmag goes in like butter now. I prefer them to the bulgy mags it shipped with.

Weird, I’ve never had any issues with PMAGs in my AK47’s or AK74’s.

There’s a pictured “tutorial” by @Sweet_P in the thread titled Ak74 mag compatibility that helped me fit mags in my KS-47. Unlike me, it’s probably best to read all of his descriptions before starting to file off anything significant :grimacing: Not sure if he’s 100% correct, but my AK-47 Magpul pmags are working now! (Accidentally bought a couple ProMags that I didn’t get working - will continue the destruction this weekend!)

I avoid promags at all cost.

I bought 5 extra pmags and 1 needed filing, not really uncommon. Just sand the bottom of the rear tab so you dont change the angle of the magazine. And yes avoid promag at all costs.

Lesson learned. I bought two at Cabelas and tried to fit them in. Wouldn’t fit, so I tried sanding one of them, still doesn’t fit. What is wrong with those things?

Anyways, I took one of them back and bought two pmags

Cap,

I think it depends on the PMAG. I have several different AK PMAGs in both 30 and 20 rounds. Some fit my GF3, some don’t. So what I did is just test and label the mags that fit. Not sure if it’s a ‘generation’ issue or what. I have (2) other AKs from different manufacturers and didn’t have any issues. I figure just buy plenty and label what works with what. Hope that helps have a good one.

Agreed . P mags fit fine (albeit snug) in my palmetto state AKs but pmags are hit or miss in my imports

For me it depended in the generation of the mag.
The 30 round MOE that came shipped with my GF3 was all polymer and fit perfect. The 30 round Gen 3 mags I purchased did not fit without filing. The new nub that locks the magazine into place is metal rather than polymer and slightly thicker than the previous version.

To answer “how much to shave off” I don’t recall it being very much. Just go little by little and keep trying till it fits properly. 99% sure it was a thickness issue not a length issue.

Have fun with that statement.

Pmags fit perfect in mine although I really only buy the much cheaper gen 2 Pmags with the polymer Lug. I know they “dont last as long” but they are so cheap I can just replace them if/when they wear out.

Yeah I’ve bought several in the last 6 months. Some have fit out the package and others needed work. All fit now!
