PSAK-47 GF3-R "BFPU" paint finish technique

This gun built from a Romanian kit has a worn in appearance on the metal parts. I believe the BFPU stands for “battle field pick up”. Does anyone know if the paint is scratched/buffed off (maybe with a brillow pad) or is there some kind of paint technique used to create the battle worn look while keeping the metal 100% covered in paint?

If paint removal is the way it’s done, how concerned should I be about rusting?

Without a pic or a link I’m not sure what you are referring to. But usually the battlefield worn look is achieved with cerakote and all metal or plastic/composite parts are completely covered and protected.
