I have recently purchases the " PSA AK-47 PICATINNY DUST COVER WITH REAR BACK UP SIGHT" for my GF3 and it seems like the roll pin is entirely too big to fit into the rear sight block. After looking at the reviews it seems like many people have experienced this issue, so I am just wondering if anyone has found a solution? Do I need to contact PSA to get a smaller pin, or is there something else I’m missing?
Welcome to the forum
@jwcreel4.2
I’m not a AK guy but you can expect someone to come along and help you out. Enjoy
Which one did you buy? I haven’t noticed their railed dust covers available for quite awhile.
I bought the one that I quoted above. It is pretty much always sold out but I was able to snag one when it came back into stock briefly about 10 days ago.
I would call CS, they are not here on the forum. IT appears as though this has happened before based on the questions posted on it. Search returned 11 pages of results, it was on page 11.
welcome aboard @jwcreel4.2 glad to have you.
i have no experience with installing that unfortunately, hopefully some one here will have some insight.
I almost pulled the trigger on this, but I went with the Soviet Arms railed gas tube around the same time that dust cover came back in stock.

Well, I called customer support today and they were no help whatsoever. I didn’t mention it above but the rail came without the screws needed to attach it to the rear sight block as well as for the backup peep sight. I wasn’t too worried about that as it seems its a common issue and psa will replace them, but they said they cannot replace them and would not even give me their specifications so I could look for them locally. They offered to let me exchange the item, but it seems like this item rarely ships with the screws so I don’t want to wait around for a few weeks for another defective part. As for the roll pin, they also offered no help. So this forum is my last hope, if anyone has any info please let me know.
I’m really surprised that is the response you got…
Can you get some photos for us to see?
the best help i can offer you is to see if we can get @Josiah_PSA or @sean.psa or @Anthony_PSA to see if they can help ya out with it by getting the screws and roll pin for you or to see if they can get and tell us the specs of the screws and roll pin.
the other thing that possibly could be done is someone here with the rail on one of their guns already to take them off their gun and measure them for you with a micrometer. hope that helps
So after a trip to the hardware store and a lot of tinkering I think I have actually figured it out, although I won’t know for sure until Im able to go sight it in and check how it holds zero. Now, it would definitely be a lot better with the specified parts, but for those who are not able to get them from PSA this is what I did:
I bought a 5/32 by 1 inch roll pin and crushed it in a vice grip until there was essentially no space left in the gap of the pin. At this point, it should fit without too much effort, and then I just had to file it slightly as it was just a bit too long. I then bought some M4-.70 x 10 black machine screws and they seemed to be the right screw to attach the rail to the hinge, although they are quite a bit too long. Luckily, the threaded hole for the screw goes all the way through the rail so I was able to tighten them all the way down and then file the part that stuck out at the bottom until it was flush with the bottom of the rail, so it would not interfere with the bolt carrier. You could try to get slightly shorter screws, but the only other ones I could find were M4-.70 x 6 and they were too short. I don’t think the screws were perfect, as there was still a bit of wobble on the rail, which I was able to essentially eliminate by using a healthy amount of Locktite 242. I appreciate everyones help, hopefully this got the job done.
I went with a TWS solution so if I took measurements not sure it would help.
This is what they use for a pin though.
I figured I should respond to this post since I found it hard to find any information on installation of the psak 47’s railed dust cover. Its actually pretty simple, once youve done once.
All you need is that roll pin they provide you and the screw as well. The pin will not fit, but its okay, roll pins are designed like that. Theyre designed to crush. So just crush one end of the roll pin until you can get in started with a hammer and pound it in. Super easy. I hope that helped ![]()
… Barely an Inconvenience!

Can you update on how well it stayed zero? I’m having this same issue.
Welcome aboard. If he’s talking the TWS railed dust cover it is GTG and so is PSA’s I have both versions. PSA’s is uber rarely in stock due to demand.
Ive never had an issue with zero on my 104 with a railed cover.
