Hello again PSA forum friends. I am at loss, for an answer. I have a Dagger that after a few initial issues with I am quite pleased. I liked it so much I decided to order a new slide so that I add an optic to it, specifically a Vortex Venom. Got the slide it looks great and functions well. So I decided to mount my Venom sight, well as I expected it requires a mounting plate so the optic could be attached (no it’s not a direct attachment the holes are probably 1/16 off). I went to my parts bin and looked to see if one of the other manufacturers plates might fit, but no dice. Still not a huge deal, I decided to have a look on the PSA website and couldn’t find a vortex venom/dagger mounting plate. I then figured I would give them a call. When the phone system said most calls are answered in an hour and four minutes, I thought I had better pick the collective groups brain. Any helpful info would be appreciated. Thanks
I’d encourage you to wait until PSA offers the Dagger “Doctor cut” slide without a Vortex Venom (and without a threaded barrel) and just swap out your Dagger RMR cut slide. I think you’ll be much happier with the finished product as compared to an adapter plate.
You could also just trade in your vortex for an rmr pattern, such as holosun.
Actually, I like @GuitarGuy’s suggestion better.
Well, I may end up with a blended solution. I may return the Vortex red dot, or I may see if PSA makes a different slide that will accept the vortex sight. They sell one with a vortex mounted to it and it doesn’t look like it has an adapter. I wish I would have just gotten that to begin with because it’s roughly the same price as the slide and red dot combination. I managed to get through to a customer service rep this morning there was only 20 min wait. She was super nice, but said she would have to have a product specialist call me.
I really like PSA stuff but the issues I have had and the time it has taken to resolve them will probably cause me to stop buying from them. Their prices are generally quite fair, but time and energy required to resolve these issues has a cost also. It may be easier in the long run to pay a little more up front and avoid the issues on the backend.
That’s correct. PSA describes this as the “Doctor cut”. I assume this is the Docter/Noblex mounting standard. The fact that it’s offered with a Vortex Venom suggests it has the Vortex Venom footprint. It should accept your Vortex Venom directly (without an adapter plate). If you could return your Vortex Venom, you could buy the slide with a Vortex Venom. One caveat … it’s not yet available in DLC with a Vortex Venom if that’s what you’re after, although I’m sure it’s just a matter of time.
I found a mounting plate on close out you can use.
I’d be careful. I have absolutely no reason to think the Vortex Razor and Vortex Venom share the same mounting standard, let alone the same footprint.
Oh dang. GREAT CATCH! I didn’t even catch that was the different model
You’re good. It can be confusing. For example, the Vortex Venom and Vortex Viper share the same mounting standard, but not the same footprint. In other words, both the Venom and Viper may be compatible with the same adapter plate, however, if you’re talking about a slide cut … like the Dagger “Doctor (sic) cut”, the respective footprints are very different …
I appreciate everyone’s help and input. I don’t think a solution of half measures is going to be a good long term solution. Since I have had no response or reply from PSA, returning the slide to get one that is compatible with the Vortex red dot doesn’t seem like it’s going to pan out. I am going to return the Vortex sight, which is unfortunate because a got a smoking hot deal on it through a professional affiliation. I guess I will look for a Trijicon RMR and just move on from there. Now I am faced with trying to find a legitimate Trijicon product which rules out Amazon.
Thanks again to everyone that offered help.
You definitely want to avoid Amazon when it comes to a high-end optics. I’d recommend EuroOptic for a Trijicon RMR. EuroOptic doesn’t necessarily have the best prices and does charge sales tax (for applicable states), however, shipping is free. I recently purchased a Trijicon RMRcc (not compatible with the Dagger RMR cut),
Order Date: February 15
Ship Date: February 15
Delivery Date: February 17 (to the middle of nowhere)
By the way, I purchased my last two Trijicon RMR’s from PSA in October 2021 for $429.99. However, the PSA price has since jumped $70 to $499.99.
Thanks Dan I appreciate the info, I have misspent my entire adult life with firearms as a large part of it, but this is my first foray into a weapon mounted red dot sight. I am glad you mentioned that particular Trijicon model as not fitting, it was one of the ones I was looking at. I may just go to one of the big box brick and mortar retailers today and pick up a Trijicon RMR.
The Trijicon RMRcc will pair beautifully with the new Micro Dagger (G43X), but not the existing Compact Dagger (unless you have the slide custom-cut).
You’ll want to give the Trijicon RMR dot size some consideration if you haven’t already. The Trijicon type 2 RMR is available with a 1.0, 3.25, and 6.5 MOA dot. I think it’s fair to say the 3.25 MOA dot is by far the most popular. However, it’s largely personal preference and in some cases physiological (e.g., astigmatism). It’s a major investment. Ideally, you’d be able to shoot a Trijicon type 2 RMR having the different dot sizes at the range.
I have a half dozen of these,
With the Dagger RMR cut slide, you’ll want to order a Trijicon RMR Mount Sealing Plate,
Good luck!
Thanks again, didn’t think about the sealing plate thanks again for the info.
Hey Dan one more question, have you had any experience with the Holosun stuff, they seem to have some decent technology but I have never had any of their stuff.
I’ve never owned an MRDS other than a Trijicon type 2 RM06 (3.25 MOA) RMR. However, if I were to consider a more budget-friendly MRDS, it would be a Holosun (e.g., HS407C/507C X2).
I appreciate the info, I will mull it over further I would rather get the info from someone who has had your hands on experience. Thanks again.
Holosun is gtg and uses the rmr pattern. I have a 508 on my dagger.
