Replacing my 16”free float Handguard looking for input

I’m looking for recommendations and any tips you guys may have as to the ks47 free float Handguard replacement. I have my eye on the Geissele Free float 13.5 or another 15” . On the fence and would appreciate any insight from fellow ks47 owners.

Geissele rails are awesome. I have the mk4, mk8, and mk16. Over all I prefer the mk 8. It is the same profile as a mk4 but is all mlok with no pic rails at the end. Super easy to install, and locks up tight.

Thanks for your recommendation I’ve heard nothing but good things about their rails.

welcome aboard.

i second much of what Guitar Guy says, however they are friggin expensive, and thats the major issue i have as im frugal. I wish i could just recount which rails i have of theirs like he didbut honestly i have too many to recall :frowning:

@mikedriggers74 @GamecockOperator has a mk8, a mk14, and a mk4 if I remember correctly. :wink:

I’m not sure, if you’re going to spend like that why you would bother with a Geissele when you can get a Knight’s Armament URX?

There are a lot of good rail companies out there; midwest, centurion, slr…etc. Almost everything AR these days is great quality, even the lower tier budget line PSA products.

IMO usually there really isn’t any practical gain from changing parts like rails other than aesthetics. But, I have plastic drop in hand guards on most of my rifles.

@WC904 you are correct in that there are a lot of great rail companies. I think the practical gain for rails is based solely on your accessories and comfort. I prefer bigger rails and due to a broken wrist many years ago also use an AFG on almost all my Rifles. But if I add a light I need to make sure there is enough rail space for that.

Be aware if it has locating tabs the rail will have to be modified. These recievers are wider than milspec. I had to modify my midwest combat rail quite a bit to make it fit.

Finished product.

why is this? can you get me a closer pic of the side view where you modified? i am not following why it was having to be modified.

Thanks for the heads up man .
I wouldn’t be to happy about taking a grinder to a brand new 250-300$ hand guard.

nor would I. that is not a good thing.

The ks47 upper reciever is physically wider than a milspec ar15 upper in order to fit ak mags inside of it…

Vs a normal milspec ar15 upper reciever with the same handguard.

Forged vs billet. Many rail manufacturers do not guarantee fitment on billet uppers.

Gen 2 is forged. It just physically has to be wider or the mags wouldn’t be able to fit. Nothing 20 minutes, a file, aluminum black, and patience can’t solve

Good to know about this. Thanks for the insight. Looks like
you did a good job of fitting it.

It did take some grinding, but it was a good fit. Took of regular handrail of KS47 and replaced it with MK14 Geissele Handrail. H3 buffer and spring, Radian Charging handle and safety selector switch, Surefire Scout, Epsilon Gamma Muzzle Brake, GBRS second best sling, SC Irregulars hand stop and forward grip, Troy Industries Sights. Shoots great.
