KS-galil?

I have an idea. I know PSA showed off a ks74 prototype in 5.45x39. Given the doubling of 7.62x39 and the extinction of 5.45x39 I want to make another one that uses Galil magazines in 5.56. There’s a fair bit of ‘Why Bother’ involved but this is an absolute whimsy of an idea. Has anyone else tried this? Did anyone see the changes involved to get the ak74 magazines to fit?

interesting idea… not sure why though… but interesting none the less. personally i just want a KS47 myself,

The Why is kinda thin. With the end of a bloated and subsidized Russian arms industry dumping 7.62x39 on the market for 25 ¢ a round there is no cost advantage to 7.62x39. I am sure American companies will make it but their production is woefully limited and I don’t foresee them ever getting close to the Russian price. Those plants in Russia are bigger than anything in West. Barnaul makes lake city look my reloading bench. I just don’t want to toss my KS47s onto the too expensive to shoot pile like my Ljungman or VZ52. So maybe 556.

Hypothetical Project Buildout.
LOWER PARTS

Receiver

gotta see how to get a Galil Mag to fit.
Stock Hinge
https://palmettostatearmory.com/sylvan-arms-gen-2-1-3-16-16-folding-stock-adapter-for-ar-15-style-rifle-arh100.html

Folding stock options for the AR are like the American menu at my favorite Chinese Restaurant, the options are limited and the quality is poor, because you’re asking it to do something weird.

But hey the sell them here.
Buttstock
For a stock nothing AR compatable looks more like a Galil than

And its a stubby stock so after tossing on the Folder Hinge you still end up with a human sized LoP.

The Hinge system throws some weight on the bolt, so I’m gonna toss in a standard buffer

Trigger
I know these fit and good triggers are like grandkids, spend lots of money on them.

and of course the magazines

UPPER PARTS
oh boy.

Upper Receiver

Used them before, and they take back orders.

Barrel
probably wouldn’t use this actual barrel because I prefer to use a Mid Length Gas system

Gas Block

The Galil has Iron Sighs, and I like options

Bolt Carrier

Because PSA thinks like H&K “Because you suck, and we hate you” I seriously doubt I’m going to live long enough to see these come back into stock, so I buy something close from somebody else.

Gas Key
https://palmettostatearmory.com/pof-roller-cam-pin-kit-with-modified-gas-key-223-5-56-ar-00393.html

These things are strangely hard to find.

Bolt
https://palmettostatearmory.com/ar15-complete-mpi-bolt-assembly.html

Going to try it with a straight 5.56 bolthead, not warm to the idea of having to cut metal away from a locking surface, so big thick lugs.

Firning pin and stuff

https://palmettostatearmory.com/ar-15-field-repair-kit.html

These things are great, and PSA’s kit is the most realistic, getting old and losing your vision sucks, its like somebody there loses the same parts I do. They might as well call it the "you’ll find that with the sweeper " kit.

Handguard

The elephant in the room and the most nebulous part, suggestions needed.

cobble together someway to get this on, probably just drill out the rivets, pop in a few Mlock screws and bolt it on.

toss in some sights.

Nice Cigar

and there’s something here I can build.

Just got to figure out how to get a magazine to work.
