Does anyone know if the upper and lower receivers can be used to function with a 5.45 build? If I use their BCG with a 5.45 bolt and barrel, does the geometry work for using either the 7.62 or 5.45 mags?

It is something that is a possibility in the very long term future, but it is nothing that they are planning on doing now.

Out of curiosity, why do the 74 mags not work? The PMAGs seem to fit alright. Granted, I haven’t put a 5.45 conversion on yet, so I’m just curious why the mags are incompatible

Did you ever find out if AR74 parts work? Looking more at it, my PMAGs and some other mags seem to fit fine. But, I don’t want to shell out the money for an additional upper if it’s a waste to try
I don’t think the upper is an issue. I’ve built a 74 with a mil spec upper. Pmags sucked as far as being reliable feeding in a milspec lower. Best 3-4 rds before a jamb. I had to find the ASC 5.45 mags and they flow like butter.
I’m sure the 47 lower they have is a larger magwell than a 5.45 mag. I’ll check and let you know.

Yeah I love my 5.45 AR15 with ASC and Duramags. But, now I want to see if I can make a personal KS-74 haha.

Our lead engineer confirmed via text that the KS47 lower will not work with KS74 magazines. I will find out more detail on Monday and let you know. I will talk with him about exactly why.

@maxwalkergm I talked to the lead engineer. He said there are many different reasons why the lower would have to be redesigned. The KS47 was designed for the AK47 magazine in many different fashions. He said that in short, the AK74 mags simply will not function due to the dimension and design of the AK74 magazine.
In order to work, we would have to re-engineer another lower to fit exactly with the KS74 magazines. If it were just a magazine change and a bolt change, we would have already come out with a KS74.

I see that, but it’s not insurmountable. I would think that with all of the 5.45 still out there, it’d be a nobrainer to fill that niche. I’d prefer to use the AR platform with the ruskie mags. Surely an engineer and a good machinist can make that work reliably. That and some 5.45 barrels would sell well.
The KS74 has been put on the back-burner right now. We have talked about it on other social media platforms. With other products that have more demand, we decided to put the KS74 on the back-burner. We have not abandoned it, just not on the forefront of our minds. I have a ton of 5.45 and have an KS47. I would love to see one and was kind of bummed as well. We will see what the future holds!

I guess your the same guy on AR-15.com will PSA still sell KS-47 parts (BCG, pins etc) and honor lifetime warranties on our KS-47s
