I want to run a 300blk upper on my ks47. Theoretically, a 556 circle 10 mag should work with 300blk.
Before I go out and spend a hundred bucks on a magazine, I’d like to know if it at least fits in the magwell properly.

Since 300blk is specifically designed to go on a milspec upper and lower, and run best in a 5.56 type AR mag, wouldn’t that be the best way to go?
it doesnt matter. ive bought a bunch of different mags to try.
magazine fit on the KS-47 is problematic even in 7.62x39. I can only say that Galil magazines don’t fit. I would also remind you that you would still have to use a ks-47 upper. You can however with a lot of grinding and some shims, get a AK-74 magazine to fit in the hole, but its really down at the rear and probably wouldn’t feed.
Thanks man, thats good intel!
I was able to find a mag that works after a good bit of grinding and filing.
AC Unity AK-74 45 Round Magazine - 5.45x39mm - Windowed
Unmodified, she’s a little tight and rides a little high. But a file will get her there.
What areas of the magazine did you file down for a fit? I accidentally bought AK 74, 5.45x39 magazines. PSA wouldn’t take them back by the time I realized they were not the LS-47’s. So why not modify to for fit! Second thought, would the AK74 upper fit the KS-47 G2 lower?
If the mag fitment is close, it doesnt take too much. I bought like 10 different mags and this is the only one that was close. I will add some pictures of the mag I did.
If you have metal zpap85 mags, look here https://thisguysguns.files.wordpress.com/2021/11/zpap-85-magazine-mods.png
This has saved me a lot of trouble! Thank you @Sweet_P
Edit: Forgot to say that this helped for my AK-47 mags that had fitment issues (not AK-74).
KS 47 may use most magazines from the “AKM” family.
NOTE: The former Yugoslavia countries manufactured their own AKs that are Different from the modern AKs……and parts are NOT interchangeable.
The magazine fit is different too.
Some people who love the KS-47 7.62x39 have built KS-47 (KS-74) with a 5.56 barrel. They are using Yugoslav ZPAP 5.45 magazines because they can be modified to fit the KS-47 and they can feed 5.56 nato ammunition.
If your fitting AK mags into your KS-47……avoid the Former Yugoslavian countries magazines. Stick with AKM family of magazines. The Yugoslav guns and magazines are great quality……but they are built to a different specification than the AKM family. The only reason to use the Yugo mags is if your building a hybrid KS-47 to shoot 5.56 or 5.45.
This is suddenly relevant to my interests. Was musing just last night about the possibility of building a second upper to run 5.45 because it sounds like fun and I love soviet mousefarts. Is there a thread here or elsewhere detailing someone’s (mostly) successful conversion to 5.45 or 5.56?
I don’t have the link….but I have followed several videos where A KS 47 was converted. If I am not mistaken he was also using a piston operation. The guy was really innovative. I was curious only because I knew that the mags were different. Turns out he was using the steel Yugoslav 5.45 mags with minor fitting. It can be done……it will be fun……but it’s not going to be easy. Keep us posted if you take this build on………very interesting ![]()
Much obliged. Exactly what I needed to learn.
I did find this Youtube video of a KS-47 converted to shoot 5.45 with AK74 magazines:
Here’s what I used to want to try. I wanted to build a KS47 to fire 6.5 Grendel. My thought was since a 6.5 Grendel uses a 7.62x39 case that any AK 7.62x39 magazine should feed the 6.5 Grendel round, and wouldn’t a 7.62 bolt work with Grendal? After doing some research apparently an AK mag won’t feed 6.5 Grendel other than possibly a few rounds, and if I’m not mistaken a KS47 isn’t quite as modular with the AR15 platform as you might think.?.?.? Would of been a cool build though.
