just to confirm the slide WILL NOT lock open without a magazine inserted correct?? thanks
I’m guessing you’re new to firearms? If so welcome to the joyous expensive habit.
Without actuating the slide lock most (all?) guns won’t keep the slide open without a magazine inserted.
Manually it will.
Welcome to the forum
@patrickmedici77
thanks. I just wasn’t racking it back far enough plus being used to Glocks i was looking for a notch in the slide for the lock. thanks again
@patrickmedici77 welcome to the forums we’re glad to have you.
Man I have this problem too. I put in a timney trigger and everything works fine but for some reason the slide lock actives every time I shoot. Mag or no mag. Fully loaded or empty. Not quite sure what to do at this point the trigger pin went in fine and the slide lock is on it right it just will not stay down.
i’ve heard there are issues with timney triggers and these did it function fine with the oem trigger?
Yea it was perfectly fine
I’ll try to make a new thread and post it with pictures soon
I didn’t know they made a timney trigger for the rock… it’s not a glock trigger right? Like psa has its own proprietary trigger ?
https://timneytriggers.com/trigger-type/handgun-triggers/
Nothing for The Rock listed there. I think our new friend might have wandered over from the dagger forum.
or he put a dagger trigger in a rock?
Yup sorry I have a dagger I must’ve misread the thread
Good luck! Not sure about your troubles.
On a new 5.7 Rock, with an empty magazine inserted, the slide will lock to the rear as it should.
With no magazine, it is not possible to manually lock the slide to the rear with the lever. It feels like it is not raising high enough for the tab on the lever to catch in the slide notch (not sure if this is what is happening or not)
Also, when the slide is locked to the rear with the magazine removed, the slide will slam closed if the gun is bumped, and sometimes it will slam forward, even with no contact to the gun.
Anyone have an idea if this is a slide problem, or a lever/spring problem?
I have initiated a warranty claim (Gun is about 3 months old with about 100 rounds is all) - Most were through a suppressor, though I do not see how that could have impacted it? (The gun has also been cleaned and it still does it.)
Any ideas of things to start checking until I get a response from the warranty department? - Thanks
Could be a defective spring.
Here is a look at mine, works well on my Rock. Just to compare with your own, if anything looks bent broken or worn perhaps. It has a good spring feel to it when moving up also. Not heavy but you can feel it.
Thank you for posting your reply, and for the pictures. In looking at your 3rd picture, I think the lever is at rest. Yours shows a small amount of space between the top of the lever (what looks like a shark fin) and the rearward angle cut of the frame step.
On mine, there is hardly any space at all. In fact, the back of my “shark fin” is about even with the frame cut.
After seeing your pics and comparing them, I am thinking the lever may be a faulty part. That shark fin may not be able to get into the slide cut do to a misalignment there when it it pushed up to try to engage it.
Thank you very much. I have sent their warranty department an email, and they responded within an hour or so, asking for a video of the failure. We will see what they respond with, but I will certainly point out the variance I see between your and mine to them.
Thanks!
yeah i think its an issue with your slide lock lever and spring.. probably the lever..
That would be good…Perhaps they will make the same determination, and just send the replacement parts, rather than having me send the gun back.
I posted thinking others may have had the same issue, and it was a known failure point. It worked when I got it, and I have fired only about 100 rounds through it. (All suppressed - though I doubt that would have caused the failure) - Perhaps it is just a mis-stamped lever.
They asked for a video, which I sent on the afternoon of Thursday the 7th, but so far, they only responded that they would notify their failure team. Hopefully they will have worked it through their backlog by next week.
Thanks for the input.
