ROCK 57 slide issues

My barrel retracted with the slide and then jammed up the works. The slide is retracted farther than the barrel lug if you look through the ejection port and the slide has been forced up off track but I think the barrel being pulled back forced the slide up. Has anyone else had this issue with their Rock 57 or any other gun for that matter?

1, how in the world did that happen?
2. Your best bet is to send it to CS

That looks like its going to take a rubber mallet to fix…hope you didnt mess up the frame.

Edit: wonder if whoever did the slide work for you messed something up.

did this happen when you put the slide on? If so I think you missed the front rails.

Yeah. I’m not used to the way it takes down and disassembles. I don’t own a glock, so the only gun I have with those tabs is my PDP and I’ve only taken apart 3 times if that.

I was putting the slide back on for the first time and guess I missed the front rails. I’m not used to taking this type of gun apart so I’m not sure how I messed up.

You might could lightly tap it forward with a rubber mallet, while pulling on the barrel. I would put it in a vice (padded so you dont mess anything up) and GO SLOW.

Yeah, i agree with what’s been said. Looks like you missed the front rails and a rubber mallet could free it.

It’s possible but I’ve had him do work on 5 other slides and have never had an issue with the other ones.

I appreciate the advice, I’ll give it a try.

The problem is that since you have now modified the firearm you are out of a warranty on it. I also recommend you have a full understanding of a firearm first before you make any modifications.

If you missed the front rails entirely, knock the rear roll pins out and the slide should lift right up with the rear trigger assembly. You can also push the front pins out and the entire front trigger assembly will come out of the frame as well

I wondered the same thing. The QPQ coating on the Rock slides is a whole different beast than straight nitride (which more than a few gunsmiths won’t do). To be totally clear, I’m not throwing stones but I do know a little about exotic materials machining and metal working. Spent over 20 years aerospace and heavy gas turbine stuff, the last few as an aerospace ME and one of the shops I supported was the machine shop.

@rich291 Make sure you don’t leave us hanging!

Although not a lot of posts I’ve found this thread fascinating… It’s taken me back a few years as this is a new product release in a format that was on my bucket list per se. I missed the front rails a couple times on re-assembly. My approach on new things in general but especially firearms has always been: “get good at it then work on the speed.” So far it’s shown the best of this forum. Not so much “Never mind that man behind the curtain” stuff, just people trying to help.

I won’t. I just had neck surgery and I get pretty bad tremors in my hands so anything that involves fine motor skills I can’t do right now. It may have played a role in the slide issue but I think that was more of a me thing than a neck thing. I’m waiting for my buddy to come over this weekend to give me a hand with it. I really appreciate all you guys trying to help me out, it means a lot.

NCEngravers posted your slide and I fell in love. Shared it in my dagger thread.

He’s done 5 of my guns in addition to the Rock and all have come out amazing, I can’t recommend him enough.
