Replacing the housing for firing pin/spring inside slide

I purchased the 5.7 Rock combo with the 407K x2 Holosun optic. When I initially installed the set screws for the optic, it did get a lil resistance after screwing in all the way to tighten optic to slide directly. After shooting around 200-250 rounds (no im not rich , still hurts my pockets) I went to clean my firearm. I noticed that when I took the housing for the firing pin/spring that the plastic had holds from the set screw.

I was wondering if PSA will sell replacement parts for these. I need 2 sets of each P17-0004-00 and P17-0005-00 due to installing it on both my original slide and on my RK1 slide. Function wise gun still works. I just dont want to continue to use it prolong and that plastic gets worse.

Wow, I bought the 407 before they bundled it and had it installed @ the Greenville store. I will say this. I trimmed the screws after reading here and have no functional issues.

It still functions properly, im just afraid since the plastic is compromised, prolonged use will cause a malfunction.

Man, if I were PSA I’d quit selling that combo until they can arrange for shorter screws to be included, or switch to a different optic that doesn’t have this problem to bundle.

There should be a couple of different set screws that are included with the rock and with the holosun. I think as a general rule of thumb, if the screws feel like you are forcing them in, stop going and try a shorter one.

As far as replacement parts goes - I am reaching out to see what the best method of action is.

Sean
Please do that.
I had mine installed by my FFL when I bought my combo from PSA I have not taken it apart to see if mine has been compromised. PSA would be prudent to open a few of these combo up and test this and them give a solid answer about if this is or is NOT something to concern ourselves about. When I buy a complete package item from any vendor I would think they would be absolutely sure all is ok to use as provided to me.

If you are going to add optics to your Rock, (Holosun or whatever brand), please refer to the Rock Optics thread, post #66. @Bigaltyson, thanks for all of the help you have provided.

Function wise the gun still works as intended but im not sure for how long due to it being compromised. If they make the replacement parts for sale, I’d gladly pay to get some replacements.

@sean.psa any updates as far as being able to purchase replacement parts? I need a for both my regular 5.7 slide and the RK1 ported slide.

Still waiting to hear back from manufacturing. I’ll follow up with them today.

Much appreciated Sean :handshake:t5:

@sean.psa i got an email couple weeks ago from customer service rep Jessica about this issue. I emailed her pictures of the parts. Never got a response after a few times responding for a follow up. I need help.

Mind telling me how you got those out of the slide?

after removing slide from frame.

  1. Push spring in with pin pusher

  2. Slide down back (be careful because the spring has some serious tension can put an eye out)

I normal put my hand over the back so it will hit my hand and not fly into my face or across the room and risk losing it

I took one of mine apart last weekend. I hadn’t looked up any guides on it. Really regret that. The spring shot up, hit the ceiling, and bounced somewhere else in the room. I cannot find this thing.

Yeah definitely gotta watch what you are doing. I was cleaning mines when i noticed the damage from the set screws of the optic. On my Canik, the screws barely reach anything with the same set screws (it has a 507k on it). Gun still functions fine for now, I just dont know if long term that will be a problem. I have another set of screes but i rather put them on once i replace the housing around the firing pin and spring. I messed it up on both my original slide and my RK1 ported slide.

I got the back off and spring out, but the firing pin housing won’t just fall out, do I have to tap it out with punch or something?

Should slide rearward. If you have optic still mounted, you may need to remove that as well.

Don’t have the optic mounted but it doesn’t just slide out. I’ll try gently tapping it with a brass punch.
