I was happy to read this, it is a win in the 2a community. Lord knows we need them. I also like the fact that people must take the cwp course in order to carry. However I’m torn between concealed and open carry, I most likely we still carry concealed. I know the thought of 10 people in line at a gas station 9 have exposed firearms, the criminal is not going to attempt to rob it, but the people dont like change. Most that are not educated in firearms are going to think the gun will randomly go off and hit someone. Just my 2 cents

During my time overseas I carried my M9 a lot of times in a Bianchi UM84 vertical shoulder holster. It is very easy to carry a full sized semi auto that way without getting in the way of operating.

BOOM.

The law goes into effect 3 days after my birthday so… happy birthday to me! I’m a little nervous about carrying openly myself, but I like that I have the option to if I want to. Especially when the weather down here can be so hot and humid, it means less layers and more comfortable clothing options. It also comes with SC being deemed a “second amendment sanctuary state” so the federal government can’t hit us with their anti-gun BS, and gets rid of the $50 permit fee. When it comes to training, a permit is still required to open carry (the difference between this law and constitution carry). To my knowledge, extra training will be added to the course curriculum to address that. I could be wrong, so if anyone has any additional information on that point feel free to let us know!

I am looking forward to it it’ll make it easier to carry especially for large people like me that the pistol tends to imprint and show it’s obvious I’m carrying a lot of time with somebody clothing I wear but I’m not going to walk down the street with my AR-15 or shotguns or any long guns none unless it comes to that you know BLM and t for people trying to burn down the Charleston area some people look crazy but just try to keep the peace and love.

Don’t get me wrong, like I said its a major win for us in the 2A community. I just am worried about people that don’t know as much as us. Years ago I was fishing, in our state you could open carry while your fishing, hunting, or camping. Well a woman and her husband were docking, she proceeded to tell me how I’m scum of the earth. Of course she made a scene out of it. Yelling at the top of her lungs. The majority of people didn’t care. Her and the husband just made a big deal out of it. I’m afraid of the same happening when open carry is allowed.

There are now, what four states that do not allow some form of open carry? If some people are that upset over open carry then they are more than welcome to move to one of those four. We can even take up a collection for their gas if they need it.

From what I understand, we can open carry after Aug 15. You still need to take a class.

I’ve never met any of these hotheads im hearing about.
I dont think someone willing to shoot another person over a parking spot is waiting for a law to go through to do it.
That person is already carrying and hes not doing it legally.

I moved down to SC from PA about 5.5 years ago, one of the first things I did was look into gun laws and carry laws more specifically and I was surprised to learn SC prohibited open carry, PA is and has as long as I’ve known been an open carry de facto legal state, you only need a permit for concealed carry, although SC allows for a loaded firearm in your vehicle without a permit, where in PA that also required a concealed carry permit.

I said all that to make the point that open carry can only be an issue where it has become a cause to be used as ammunition in the 2A battle.

Open carry was not very common in any area of PA that I was ever in, not the suburbs, cities, or in the country. Although it is, in fact, legal without a permit. So to those concerned about open carry being a problem. I wouldn’t sweat it. Don’t let nonsensical anti-2A logic twist your mind.

AMEN!

and we’ll have open carry after august 19th.

Concealed carry - you don’t see the gun.
Open carry - you do.
Peek a boo. That’s the difference.

At this point I really don’t see the need for renewals. Maybe those will go away as well.

You still must have conceal carry permit, nothing really changes other than you can’t be charged with brandishing if it is shown.

Just curious, since the open carry law passed have any of you guys seen anyone open carrying? Personally I have not and haven’t open carried myself. I have on several occasions obviously printed.
It’s almost like no one wants to be the first

Haven’t seen anyone. I still conceal carry because I prefer it. I’ve been doing it for many years and I’m just used to it.

I’m not really surprised. Texas did the same thing not too long ago and it just made people less scared to print. Since the real constitutional carry went into effect September 1 I haven’t seen anybody open carry, but it’s made me worry even less about printing.

I’ve seen it once, and just like when I lived in NC, they were doing it to obviously stir up attention. Flashy and gaudy looking 1911 in the smallest and least secure holster possible just trying to show off. I think open carry as a practice is a horrible idea, but I am glad its been passed for two reasons. God forbid I pick my kid up to carry him and it lifts my shirt up, and being able to carry while riding again. I travel back and forth to Raleigh, NC every month and used to ride all the time. I’d have to stop at the border to take my pistol out of the saddle bag because its almost impossible to carry IWB while riding without showing.

i have yet to open carry here in SC. when my bro lived in Jacksonville NC i did open carry there when not on base. No one really paid it any attention, but i felt like everyone was lookig at me. so there… its ore bout. your comfort on it.

will i open carry here… yes i probalby will. but it will be most likely when im traveling to the range itself… otherwise, i prfer to not show too much… a printing is one thing… fully out and in the open is another entirely.
