I got a case of the Fiocchi low recoil buckshot a few years back. Works great in a pump or break action. I had to put in the other gas ring to get my CZ semi auto to cycle. No enough gas I guess. I would buy it again though.
The fiocchi dynamic defense 00 buckshot with the sku 12EX00BK is not 00 buckshot it’s really #1 shot. Fiocchi must have realized this was a problem after releasing this sku in 2022 because they dropped that sku and reboxed the rounds as sku 12EX9P for 2023. The 12EX00BK and the 12EX9P are the only 9 pellet shells they advertise at 1250fps. This is a problem because PSA sells sku 12EX00BK as 00 buckshot on the online store and it is misleading. If you have pump or break action shotgun you wouldn’t notice a difference but in a semi-automatic it makes a huge difference.
A lot of semi-auto shotgun manufacturers use dram equivalent as a measure for the lightest loads the gun should cycle reliably. My benelli M2 requires a 3 dram equivalent load to cycle reliably, 3 dram is equivalent to 1.125oz at 1200fps. 9 pellets of 00 buck should weigh 1.107oz and at the 1250 fps that the 12EX00BK sku advertised should be close enough to 3 dram equivalent to cycle my shotgun reliably. Problem is the 12EX00BK sku from fiocchi is really #1 shot which 9 pellets of #1 shot weighs only 0.833oz and is not 3 dram equivalent at 1250fps and does not cycle at all in my shotgun.
The biggest problem of all is I just bought 250 rounds of this junk from PSA because it was advertised as 00 buckshot and their policy states they don’t take returns or issue refunds or store credit for ammunition purchases. So what can be done about this? If you’re wondering I did cut open a shell of this 12EX00BK and compare it against real 00 buck and even measured it to confirm it is really #1 shot. Someone please help, this ammo is worthless to me and I was deceived, I don’t believe this was willful deception on the part of PSA but fiocchi is absolutely guilty of dirty marketing tactics.
Yes az_joe I was speaking specifically to fiocchi defense dynamics sku 12EX00BK that PSA sells as “00 buckshot” and not whatever plated fiocchi buckshot you bought. The long winded post was required to state the facts as discovered.
Don_keedix yeah it’s a picky shotgun and I thought I did my homework on what should run in it. It needs 3 dram equivalent and if the shells I bought had really been 00 buck as advertised it would have been 3 dram equivalent but since it is really #1 shot it’s too light at that velocity to cycle the action at all.
Fiocchi doesn’t list shot size or weight on their packaging or their website and only list number of pellets and velocity. The “00BK” in the sku and PSA’s description as 00 buckshot really misled me into wasting hard earned money as I didn’t think I would have to actually search for (and fail to find) load data on something advertised as 00 buckshot.
I really hope so, still waiting for a reply from customer service on the matter. Hopefully by Monday someone will reach out to me. It just worries me that the only way to verify my findings is to cut open a shell and really inspect the shot that’s in it. Not sure what lengths PSA would really go to for something like this. I have only found one post on the web where another individual found exactly what I have with ammo of the same sku# from fiocchi.
Weird the measurement in your photo shows 0.30 which would be #1 buck. If the shot from both shells you measured is 0.33 then did you just set your calipers at 0.30 to illustrate what #1 should measure? I will re-measure when I get home from work and post photos. Thanks for the response.
I concede that as a young man I have maybe only used dial calipers three times in my life and couldn’t remember how to read them properly so I apologize for my previous comment.
Unless the monarch 00 buck I have is oversized I can’t account for the huge difference in shot size as compared to the fiocchi. I’ll try to get measurements and maybe even weigh the shot itself and provide photos. I did find that 12EX00BK on midways site lists as #1 shot.
I’m also waiting for a response from Fiocchi on the matter. The real issue is that PSA sold it as 00 buck and it’s not, at least the lot I bought isn’t. Az_joe has shown his experience to be different but he also has been pretty coarse since his first reply. I can’t imagine a scenario where calling someone long-winded wouldn’t be taken as a jab so in turn I may have been snide in my remarks to him. At this point all I can do is attempt to properly measure the shot and wait for PSA to respond. This is frustrating, I work hard for my money and this has been a waste.
