Slide getting caught when trying to take down

My slide has always occasionally gotten caught up when taking it down but now it happens every time. It feels like it gets caught up on the guide rod assembly because when it gets caught it springs back.

The barrel has rounded wear where the guide rod seats. When i put the slide on it goes on smooth but once it cycles it catches.

When my Dagger gets stuck it’s the trigger/sear. I have to hold my trigger down the entire time while taking the slide off so it doesn’t get caught and pulled forward. If that doesn’t do it for you, try leaving some kind of mark on it, gray marker, or some kind of paint pen, just something so you can see where is catching if it’s not already apparent.

Yours seems to catch in the same area as mine but yours is a lot worse, visually and audibly. I also don’t see your trigger getting pulled forward. Still worth a try though. You are also seating the guide rod completely when reassembling right? They drop down a bit after assembly so even if you don’t remove the guide rod, you have to push it back up. It shouldn’t really go on without doing that but if it does, it could make disassembly difficult.

One of my Daggers does this occasionally, I go to take it down and the slide just sticks and won’t come off. It’ll immediately reset upon being pulled back and be fine. I’ll try to take it down a handful of times, then one try it’ll come right off as normal.

The other has no problem.

Still haven’t been able to track down what the issue is, I don’t have any marks or excess wear…because it’s nothing blatantly obvious it’s probably small and annoying - keeping an eye on this thread.

I’ve tried holding down the trigger but nothing happens, it still gets caught. I even looked thru the rear plate with a flashlight and the sear is all the way down and the striker is forward. I am seating the guide rod completely, it goes on without any fuss but when I cycle the slide it gets caught up. I can feel the springiness of the recoil spring catching on something and when it releases I can hear and feel the coils scrape on whatever it catches on.

The arrows point to where i see that the guide rod rubs/wears on the frame. I also noticed that the last catch before it releases the end of the guide rod is right behind the roll pin where the shiny spot is. Im thinking the guide rod is slipping too far down and hanging up on the roll pin.

And perhaps that rounded spot where the guide rod sits in the barrel is the culprit.

This is how far the rod is after a takedown. It’s sitting in that wear area.

If I pull the guide rod down from the muzzle while i bring the slide forward I can take it down without issue.

Definitely an interesting one I haven’t seen before. I guess it’s a barrel locking lug/takedown lever problem.

I Have that same issue as well. It happens with my full size frame but not the compact frame. It will get stuck the same way when dissembling. I pull the slide back and give it a good hard rack and then it reseats itself a little differently and I can disassemble the slide just fine. When fully assembled though I noticed When racking the slide back slowly I can hear the spring dragging/clicking on that roll pin or maybe something else. My roll pin has that same wear on it. When I let the slide go forward as well I can hear the same noise and feel the friction of the spring catching on something. I’m obviously not chambering a round slowly like that but was moving the slide slowly just to see what was causing the issue. My compact frame does not have this issue but there is a little wear spot on the roll pin still.

Edit - I only have one barrel but should be getting the second barrel I ordered tommorow. I will try this barrel out and see if the problem continues. If it doesn’t then I would assume it’s definitely an issue with the barrel as opposed to the frame which is what I was thinking intitially since I can’t hear that clicking on the compact frame and it never gets stuck on that one.

Not really related to the takedown problem I’ve been having but my guide rod screw has come loose twice during live fire now. It appears that oil crept its way in and loosened up the red loctite. I locked the slide back and removed the screw and cleaned it and the rods threads. I used a liberal amount of the blue loctite so hopefully it doesnt happen again. I will say trying to get the screw tight is not that easy and required two sets of pliers. Theres no flat spot or thru hole on the guide rod to get torque on so I hope I got it tight enough. If it happens again I might just have to get a different guide rod instead of fiddling with it all the time.

I just received my new Dagger yesterday. Following the manual, I had a similar issue and was unable to get the slide off. Each time I moved the slide forward after pulling the slide locks down, it would reset the trigger and get hung up. I found this PSA video on how to disassemble a Dagger that does NOT follow the manual. Using this method, no problem.

I must admit, it drives me crazy that following the manual doesn’t work. I would be interested if this method solves your problem.

I’ve mentioned that several times as well. The snagging does get better with more rounds/wear, but I still find it much simpler to just hold the trigger to the rear. Only on my tan Dagger though, black one is fine.

Same issue here. But I am screwed because I have a comp. The issue is the guide rod. The damn thing moves. I plan to replace all of mine with Lonewolf springs this week. I was so pissed aboutthis issue. But I love the guns. It happens for all 3 daggers. Compact and full size. My micro guide rod is even loose on it’s barrel when you take the slide off. It never stays in place. Something they need to work out for sure. So my fix for the comp being there and blocking m from pulling the guide rod down is to slide a piece of string in there and pull it up. The slide comes right off after that. Learned that trick today. My other full size does not have a comp and pulling the guide rod down works like a champ as mentioned above.

I found my problem to be the backplate on the slide. Changed it and fixed my problem of hanging up
