I was of the understanding that a Dagger pin would not work in anything else due to the tip of the pin (the part that strikes the primer) being wider than a normal Glock one. However, I have read multiple reports of people getting a P80 or Gen 3 Glock pin to work in a dagger (wickedbeernut’s big thread on glocktalk, post 764 for example (not sure if linking to other forums is kosher here?), and see also post 969 on the same forum)), and yours is the first one I’ve heard saying it wouldn’t work.
Can you describe what/how it didn’t work? Also clarify which Glock pin (gen 3, gen 4, gen 5?) and any other details you have handy.
Ah, here we go - here’s some posts from the PSA forum that touch on the firing pin replacement thing, all seem to indicate an OEM Glock pin would work. If it did not work for you, I’d be really interested to hear how/why it failed to work in the Dagger?
It was a Gen 3 OEM Glock firing pin. The nipple or tip of it is rounded like a little peg. The PSA firing pin nipple is flat and triangular. The hole where the firing pin comes out of is like a coin slot not a hole like the Glock. I didn’t even look at it I just tried to jam it in there then I noticed it wasn’t going to work.
That sounds like someone gave you a Gen 5 Glock firing pin, not a Gen 3 (or maybe an aftermarket Gen 3 pin?). All of my Gen 3 glocks have had the coin-slot cut-out for the firing pin, and the triangular pin-head (is that the right term?), where my Gen 5 Glocks have a tear-drop shaped firing pin hole and a round pin. Here’s a pic of an OEM Gen 3 Glock firing pin:
You’re awesome thanks for the pictures. I ordered from NDZ never even thought to see if they made a mistake The package was labeled Gen 3 I didn’t bother googling it. Good news for me I guess I’ll be looking to get the Gen 3 Glock firing pin
well i made the 1000 round mark two days ago. Was it trouble free? Nope. In the first 600 i had only one misfeed due to a mag drop. Thought it was a fluke and maybe i didnt seat i good enough. Then everything went well up to about 800 when i started to get mag drops. It was random as i did mark the mags so i know it wasnt an individual mag. I contacted psa about it 4 days ago and havent heard back as to a solution but im sure they will take care of it. So would i trust my life to this gun. NOT YET. When they fix the gun i will repeat the test but not until summer because ive got a back fusion coming first of feb. But what did impress me was after cleaning the gun there were virtually no wear marks. I did notice toward the end of the test the slide was getting a bit sluggish and i dont think it would have been long before i had stovepipes. But how many dont clean a gun for a 1000 rounds. But just to be sure it wasnt a dirty gun causing it i took it out after cleaning and shot a 100 rounds and twice had mag drops.
I’ll admit, I haven’t read the whole thread. Did you tell us your load(s)
Did you cast them yourself? I Shoot a lot of hand loaded Berry’s Bullets but haven’t loaded a 9mm cast bullet load yet. I’d love to here more about the 3 loads you mention.
Side Note;
I think that ETS is an under rated mag, I did a shoot with a few people and I was letting everyone shoot my PPC, I had pre loaded every Glock 19 mag I have, about 1/2 of which are ETS (I was the only one to have ever shot a ETS mag before). It was fun to see that half way through people were digging through the small pile of loaded mags looking for one last ETS to shoot before reverting to solid color mags. The advantage had been so immediately clear to them . . . .pun intended
yes i cast my own been loading and casting since 1972. As to ets ive had good and bad. the earlier ones were junk. The gen 2 mags are pretty good. Differnce is they contracted the same people that make glock springs to make theres the same.
load was 4.3 grains of br2 which is aa2 surplus primers were mostly feds but some ccis too. Bullets were cast hp and round noses between 115 and 125 grain and some 124xtps and 120 rem hps. Probably 80 percent of it was a 120 cast hps that i dumped into a can from 3 batches some PC coated and some conventional lube sized. All sized to 357. Got another 9mm test comming before the surgery on the first if stuff comes in time. Ive got a couple FA binary triggers in ars and i saw the relentless forced reset trigger add and asked them if they would work in a 9mm ar15 and they said they hadnt tested it but gave me a heck of a break on the price to test it and let them know.
well i had to send it in due to dropping mags. They said they replaced the mag release and i got it back and ran another 900 through it without a single burp.
Any decent Glock striker will be fine. Bought a “premium” one that broke fast. The Dagger striker’s I have now have all been through at least 1000 dryfires each, with 500-700 live fire rounds. Never got a light strike on them, no damage on the striker. The secret is to just stick to the OEM striker the gun comes with. Dagger striker’s are good to go in my book.
Those are all without snap caps too. Too pricey.
That was many years ago while Glocks Gen3 patents were still in effect. Any company is now free to make as close to a Glock Gen3 clone as they wish, just can’t use Glock trademarks or anything.
Henderson Defense, a place in Las Vegas that tourists can rent firearms, recently posted they were going to put Daggers on their pistol rental line. That place is an excellent torture test. Their firing regiment is probably higher than everyone on this sight combined. Still waiting to hear how they are doing.
Appreciate the information. I’ve never been a Glock fan, but there’s a lot of testimony about reliability from the LEO’s that carry them. I’m satisfied with my Dagger 9’s. Thanks again.
