Streetsweeper

I’m not sure if I have shared this one before or not. It’s a close copy of the Striker from South Africa. I bought it in 1992 as a regular shotgun but in 1994 it was reclassified as a destructive device because it’s over 50 caliber and not suitable for sporting purposes. I had to do all the NFA paperwork but wasn’t required to pay the $200 tax.

That thing is awesome! Sucks you had to do the paperwork for it but at least it was after the fact to miss out on the fee. If it’s a clone of the Striker, what is it then? I automatically think of the Cobray Street Sweeper.

Handful? Looks light other than the drum.

Hippie control.

It’s not bad to shoot though I wouldn’t take it dove hunting. It weighs 9 lbs empty. The drum is non-removable and it loads like a single action revolver. Open the loading gate, rotate the drum loading each chamber, then after each shot a spring advances to the next chamber , kinda like a Thompson. Then use the ejector rod to push out the empty shells, repeat.

Thanks. I bought a couple of boxes of mini shells a year or so ago. I need to shop for more. Not all shotguns handle them well. Also for the KSG I bought a Hi-Tech Howitzer70 KSG Muzzle Brake but the thread protector is supposedly very tight as it holds other parts in place. I researched it and a special socket on an impact wrench is recommended for removing it. I bought one but I have no idea where I put it. I guess it will show up one day.

More and more I go into a room and then just stand there with a more than usual dumb expression on my face trying to remember why I’m there. I call it thinking about the here after. What in the hell am I here after?

I thought I’d be safe from all this brain fog well into my 60’s…or was it my 50’s? Where did I put that pencil?

Anyway, about that Streetsweeper - waaaaay back when I was 18, my first gun I ever bought myself was a pristine (used) Winchester 1200 Defender Police Model. Walnut stock, dark blueing, shiny bore - beautiful gun. Gave $135 for it, IIRC.

I bought it from a LGS owned by the Uncle of a very good friend of mine. I was extremely enthusiastic about “tactical combat shotguns” back then, but we didn’t call them that.

About a month after I bought it, I was back in his shop browsing - and he showed me a unique shotgun - a Streetsweeper. He was willing to cut me a Deal: I could have it for $550 otd. This was well before these things were reclassed as NFA items. There was absolutely no way I could swing that back then - I had money I had saved up for I didn’t know how long to get the Winchester.

I sometimes wish I had, but also in retrospect I’m kind of glad that I didn’t, because I only just a couple of years ago found out that the AFT had reclassed them as “Destructive Devices”, and would have lost it to the Government trying to cough-up $200 and jump through their Illegal, Anti-Constitutional hoops. Or just been caught with it unregistered, because Ignorance.

Honestly, these things being NFA items is the Stupidest thing I’ve seen come from the AFT. Sure , they hold 12 rounds. But they have terrible triggers, fiddly actions, when manipulated in a panic you can jam them up, and once your loadout is expended take several minutes to reload.

Your typical extended-tube 3-gun Beretta 1300 holds what - 10 or 11+1? 12+1 Ghost-loaded? (mem’ry here) Has a fire rate that a quick finger can put most of those hulls in the air at one time, FAR Superior ergos, and can be reloaded in seconds.

In a firefight, I know which I would rather have in my sweaty paws.

Now, if I knew there was no possibility of a situation turning bad, then call me Idi Amin and pass that Sweeper over here. Over 9000 Intimidation Factor is an actual Thing. :winking_face_with_tongue:
