@Rufus
Very sorry to read that brothers
.
@Jammo
When l was hired on at TDOT they knew l could weld and used me to fabricate. This is me (top) and George welding in a fresh bed floor on a single axle dumpit truck. While burning wire I’m thinking to myself “I used to make $16 more an hour doing this”.

I got my WARN Act notification a couple weeks ago.
@Rufus you know that I am not making light of that fact but with the railroad you were constantly subjected to that without warning or notice. One day you were marked up working a good job that worked for you and the next day it was gone or you got pulled off of it. Now you had to move or drive to another job that you might stand for.
The upper management played games moving jobs, changing jobs, reprofiling jobs and abolishing jobs at whim or fancy without absolutely any thought or care how those changes affected the employees on and around those jobs.
One time the very top of upper management cut some upper management jobs of course below them and you would have thought that the world was coming to an end. All the stink, whining, moaning, complaining and bitching. They actually went so far as to go to a Jacksonville newspaper to complain to them. It was really funny when the employees started calling that same newspaper and informed the newspaper that those same cold upper managers that were whinning to them, those exact same managers routinely did the exact same thing to employees underneath them without a thought or care how it affected those employees. Why should anyone feel sorry for those jacka$$es when they aboslutely didn’t care what happened to anyone else as long as it wasn’t them that was being affected.
For a lot of my generation we were “loyal” to a company/employer in our younger days as this was the way we were raised. As we got older and more experienced in the workplace we realized that we were nothing more than a commodity or number to them.
They really don’t have our best interests at heart.
I am sorry you are going through this @Rufus
The really messed up part for @Rufus is that he has been doing the work that two people should be doing. His loyalty, dedication, hard work and being a team player the company rewards him by basically in essence doing away with his job. As late as 20 years ago it was routine that many businesses were still controlled by one family that had controlling interest in the family business and they did take care of their employees. Over time as those businesses grew they were bought up by large corporations that their only care was their stock price. Whatever they had to do to improve profits so that their stock price improved was perfectly acceptable to them. Employees were no longer people but assets to exploit to improve cost to earnings ratios.
yeah rufus im sory this is happening to ya bud.
but i agree with mr jeff, when i started my career i was a bit naïve, as i had thought that my career choice and where i was working was going to be a long haul term for me, and in a way it was, as it was almost 5 years of employment. I started as a contractor through a temp service to the Postal service in IT. this was back in 1997 ish, and i had always thought that after a few years, they’d go and hire me on full time. I had been there 4 years, brought my friends in as recommendations to work there, they in turn were trained up by me, and then i was let go. My manager of the USPS it department here in Columbia SC, didnt even have the balls to be there to tell me he was letting me go. he had a subordinate do it. and even worse, they were changing the key locks on the doors to the server room, on a friday, and around 2pm i was told i was no longer needed and my contract will not be renewed. they were so kind to have only 4 months prior had given me wedding gifts, and were doing this 3 days before my birthday. They didnt even give myself and the other co-worker they let go a severance, because when they told the agency they wanted to give us 2 extra weeks of pay they said that it was against their policy.
It was a rough lesson to learn for me, that my loyalty to the USPS job was all for naught. I was pretty bitter over the whole thing, as i had been raised that you get a good job at a good company and you will be looked after by them, just as you look after the company as well. I learned the hard way, post Y2k, by a year and 9months.
It really sucks that the only one and thing you need to worry about or care for in a career is you yourself and only you. but i digress.
I picked up this S&W M&P 15 from a friend of mine. He is going through a nery nasty divorce. I bought it for my 2 year old granddaughter for her to learn to shoot with. I did customize it some by changing how the take down pin worked and put in real takedown pins after drilling out part of the stock. I also put in a PSA Enhanced trigger group. She now shoots so much better.
it sure looks like a good shooter thats for sure.
Great read here. I love 22s always have. I have so many and just enjoy them all and almost always take one to the range no matter what my plans are, my favorites are the PPQ M2 22, HK MP5 with brace, Beretta 92fs 22 (really fun shooter), Ruger MarkII/IV/ SW 22A or S I forget. Anyway a bunch but I was just thinking… I do not have the 10/22! When I was a kid we shot the Marlin so much we eventually broke the plastic charging handle off! Think my brother jerry rigged up a screw or something. Think dirty old federal rounds were like 50 cents for 50 haha.
yeah i remember when .22 was that cheap. sure miss it…
i too shot marlins when i was a kid instead of the 10/22… i still have my marlins in fact… . but i also have a couple 10/22s i love…
i agree though the .22 is so much fun to shoot. i need to shoot mine more often.
You ain’t the only one that likes Eley brother man. Got it to run standard and subs. Waiting on a approval for a can…
It is some of the most accurate ammo that you can buy for the .22lr. I still have to shoot all of my different target .22lr ammo to see which one my builds .22lr like the best. I have the built target 10-22, the built CZ 455 and the built CZ 457 to try out on the different ammos. Post up some picks of your targets once you get shooting.
I will Greg. We have seen your bench work and love to see it…all of it!!! The venerable little .22lr brother man
This sold out quick yesterday. I got one and my oldest son snagged up the last two.
Thanks @Jammo for the tip!
Happy to help my fellow brother out ![]()
