Timney trigger, Striker fires on trigger reset

Dagger frame and slide, Timney Trigger.
The striker fires when I release the trigger; but when I push down on the slide, the trigger resets normally. Is this a known problem with a known fix?

no idea. are you sure you installed it correctly? i hate to ask, but better to double check that first.

No problem with that question! Yes, I am positive it is installed correctly, I’ve done dozens of these with no problems, this is my first Dagger though.

I re-installed the stock trigger, same issue (I had not checked it before the Timney install).
It looks like the rear rails are a bit high compared to my Glock and SCT frames.

Check the connector protrusion, and get/make an armorers backplate for ANY trigger modifications. Gotta make sure you have good engagement between the sear and striker.
When you say stock trigger, that does include the stock connector as well right? Ghost ones are known to cause doubles and firing on reset. I had one OEM Dagger connector be out of spec and couldn’t stay bent in shape when I tried to fix it. OEM Glock connector works just as well in that case.

And as far as I’ve heard around here, the Timney triggers do not work very well in the Dagger. Outside of here, seen too many issues with properly installed Timneys as well. Lotta light strikes. Polish job and some ammo saves you the money and hassle on aftermarket.

Swap out connector. See if it goes away.Definitely get ghost armorer’s plate or chop one down

I re-installed the Timney and played with different connectors. I found an OEM dimensioned, polished connector, and all is well.

I will get an armorer’s back plate and check the engagements.

Thank you all for your input!

cool glad you were not offended.

yeah im not sure other than hearing that the daggers have issues with the Timney triggers

I purchased, and had a friend that is a gunsmith install a Timney Alpha trigger in my Compact PSA Dagger. He couldn’t test fire it because he works on guns in his house, and doesn’t have a range.

From the start I’ve had problems with this trigger in this particular Dagger. Mind you I have it installed, and working flawlessly on 2 other Daggers. The problem is two-fold. It either occasionally fails to go into battery, or just about every other shot it’s a binary trigger. Meaning that it fires on pull, and release. I have ordered an OEM Glock trigger housing with the hope that a slightly out of spec PSA trigger housing is causing the sear mechanism to not quite seat correctly.

I am speculating here, but it seams like the sear doesn’t sit high enough to really engage the firing pin mechanism firmly. Like it needs to be shimmed up ever so slightly.

Get an armorer’s backplate or cut a factory one in half to make one. That’s the bare minimum for doing any trigger work on a Glock. Gotta check that engagement. Tell your gunsmith friend to get one too. They should have been able to check most if not all potential issues without live fire. Outside of weak primer strikes.

FYI it looks funky but if you don’t have a spare backplate, you can run your gun with the DIY armorers one. Just be aware you can get gunk in there a lot easier.

I ended up swapping the factory trigger back in it myself. First time I’ve worked on a pistol, and it wasn’t difficult at all. I plan on throwing a P80 flat polymer trigger assembly, and a Ghost trigger connector in it, and not messing with the Timney in this one.

Absolutely get an armorers plate then. Ghost connectors are known to cause doubles, fire on release, sometimes full auto. You don’t want to be surprised by that.

It’s on my list for sure. I don’t like surprises from firearms.

Thanks! Just installed a P-80 trigger and it wouldn’t reset. Have to physically grab the trigger shoe and pull it out. It also was firing the striker on reset. Took apart and tried again. Still wont reset but everything else is “normal”. I’m looking at this trigger and reading.

Now I’m going to back peddle because it has a 3.5 ghost connector that never gave me a problem. Maybe the ghost doesn’t like the p80

Edit. Oh and the trigger bar doesn’t hit the “bump” inside the slide. The slide slips on lile butter because the two dont rub.

Hello has anyone figured out why the timney trigger goes binary in the dagger I just purchased the gun with this trigger and I’m having the same issue. I have no aftermarket parts on it .

Hope this helps
