This is a load of BS. Federal Agencies screw up again and overpay Veterans for a decade that were drawing their VA pension and Social Security. Now they want Veterans to pay back thousands of dollars because of their screw up. Hundreds of thousands if not millions of people in this country draw government assistance money, cell phones and a place to live all for free to them. It doesn’t matter that most of those individuals has never had a job and has never paid a dime into the system. On the other hand you have Veterans that served this country and defended our country, freedom and our Constitution. Why should they have pay back money when this whole mess isn’t their fault. Why is it ok to give illegal aliens thousands of dollars, a plane ticket and a place to stay all on our tax dollars that they also never paid a dime in taxes. If our government is so eager to give away money to people who have only dragged this country down, then why should a veteran that not only paid into the system but did it serving our country have to pay back money that they should have received anyway. So many of our Veterans are homeless or barley making ends meet. I hope that Congress can put a stop to them having to pay this money back. I am not holding my breath though because you get better treatment from our government when you do nothing to earn that treatment.

I always thought that a VA pension and social security would be 2 different systems. One is for people who served in the armed services and one would be for people who work in the civilian sector. I figured if you did both you deserve both. This country is so screwed, makes me sad for the hell my grandchildren will live in.
They are two separate systems. It is like having a pension from a company that you worked for and retired from. You then draw your pension and Social Security. The difference for the veterans is that both Social Security and the VA are government agencies so they think that you are double dipping in retirement. In reality you are only drawing what you earned. It shouldn’t make any difference where your pension comes from in relation to Social Security. One shouldn’t have anything to do with the other because you paid into both systems to retire. We all know that our government will do anything that it can to steal as much of your hard earned dollars as they can. Hey they have to pay all those people not to work and that gets very expensive. I guess we all should be happy to be working so that we can support other people to have a leisurely lifestyle of no work and all play. 
Goodness he was overpaid for 10 years? And the VA wasn’t aware? Sure. The DAV and VFW have claims officers who could deal with the VA.
IMO-Congress could waive all that. How many people are tax cheats that get by the IRS because the statute of limitations expired? This is the fault of the government.
I deal with this annually when I file my taxes. They know who the Disabled Veterans are.
The article did go on to mention that the VA is pausing this issue.

Hell it shouldn’t be an issue at all. Our dumba$$ president releases billions of dollars to one of our mortal enemies that is hell bent on trying to wipe us off of the map but our veterans are getting paid too much? What a load of horse poo. I get fired up on issues like this one. We freely hand out to everybody in the world our tax dollars for free when we have a national debt that we can’t pay. We can’t even get a national budget without robbing Peter to pay Paul . Forget trying to do a balanced budget. We can’t pay our own debts back. That doesn’t stop our government from freely handing out billions of our tax dollars to everyone but the ones that actually deserve some of our tax dollars. Like I said before our government only cares about handing out free money to everyone but the ones that our country actually owes more than just money. Our government is completely backass backwards in it’s thinking on just about every subject imaginable. I am glad that my time on this earth is a lot less than I have been alive. The way our world is going it doesn’t hurt my feelings that my time on this earth is a lot less than I have been alive. Unless there are some very big changes to our country in the very near future I don’t know how this country can survive. While our enemies train their youth to fight, be battle hardened and religious fanatics we on the other hand are raising up a bunch of pansy a$$ snowflakes that hyperventilate, whine and cry if someone even raises their voice to one of them. I am glad that I raised my son to be a man, to take care of himself and to not back down or give up when he faces a challenge in life.
Some Veterans are not aware that they can literally manage their own account online. If you know Veterans that are not aware they may need to know.

VA.gov is a crap website. I have been providing evidence and records for 2 decades, and I had to do a FOIA that took almost 3 years to find out my records were “damaged or destroyed” in a fire at a facility and were not scanned. I got a photo of a medical jacket. I also got some “negative” comments in my files, but none of my accomplishments. Funny that. I maxed the Army language test, I maxed the military intelligence analyst test (battery), and was interviewed by CID for finishing it too fast. Once they figured out I perceived data “differently” I was promoted, and my career track was altered. Long story, but I am rated 30% for a damaged spine from a failed parachute on a jump. 10% for the ankles, 10% for a crushed vertebrae. The other 4 damaged vertebrae have been ignored by the VA. Finally I was able to get all of my personal medical records and the PACT act allowed me to file for exposures to many toxic things. VA response. Pending. Pending for months. I will probably die before I get a rating. Yet I see 100% people driving around FL, hopping out of their mega Jeeps, Cadillacs, Corvettes, and bouncing and running. Zero disability. I can barely walk. Yeah. THE VA is a crap shoot. If you have a buddy, you get the magic 100%. If you really need it, the VA screws you over.
If you are a veteran, DO NOT, NEVER EVER, under any circumstances, reach out to their debt management for help. Once you do, they will notify the FBI and ATF, and if you are a hunter, or shooter, or own any firearms, they will red flag you, and they come and confiscate your firearms.
They consider debt to be a mental health issue. You can dress as a unicorn and worship fart bubbles, that is fine in their woke minds, but how dare you live beyond your means. But if you are a woke liberal idiot with 300k in college debt, that is fine.
Be careful, do some research. Use a computer and not your phone. Phone searches are scripted, regulated and controlled and you will only get what they want to give you.
The Disabled American Veterans (DAV), Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) and Wounded Warrior Program (WWP) work with the VA all the time and can assist you in navigating around the bureaucracy.
I never have any patience for bureaucracies. Although I should practice some I could get further than just frustration.
Everybody has different experiences with the VA. I was Medically Retired after 26 years and my transition was almost seamless. I did have to do some homework about CFR Title 38, Concurrent Retirement Disability Pay (CRDP) and Social Security Disability. For the most I did get some type of representation from said Veteran Organizations or a Lawyer.
It is ashamed an organization like the Veterans Administration is supposed to support Veterans and it does tug at America’s heartstrings. Yet sometimes it seems like they don’t give a crap.
It has gotten better. It only works when you use it. If you have ideas or comments to make the website better send it to the VA. They have site surveys at the end of some sessions. You can option to participate or not.
