Does anyone have any info or feedback on any or all of the following optics:
Viridian RFX35, Swampfox Liberty, Tacticon Predator V4, or the Vortex Viper?
I’m planning on getting either a full size Walther 4.5" PDP or a Shadow Systems DR920 Combat in the next couple months. Since we here in God’s own Volunteer State have Constitutional/open carry (I prefer open carry due to having an ostomy which makes concealed/IWB a little tricky & SUPER uncomfortable), I’d prefer to go with an SRO-style optic if I go with the PDP. That’s not set in stone, but I think I’d like it better on THAT particular gun. Therefore I’ve been considering the Viridian RFX35, Vector Optics Frenzy or Tacticon Predator V4.
If I go with the Shadow Systems DR920 Combat, which is close to $100-$150 more than the PDP (because I want 1 with a spiral/fluted barrel), I’ve crossed Holosun off the list & decided to go with either the Vortex Viper ($200 on Optics Planet) or the Swampfox Liberty ($175 on Optics Planet). I’ve decided on these 2 for the Shadow Systems simply because the overall profile/size of it seems smaller than that of the PDP.
Does anyone have any input/feedback on the optics themselves & which ones would work better with which pistol?
I personally think Vortex does LPVOs way better than dot sights and I second Rufus on Holosun being a step up on them in general.
I think the rest of your options are just more of the same. There’s really not a lot of differences in all of those mid-tier dot sights, pick the one you like the look, price, and features of and chances are you’ll be happy with it.
If I end up going with the Shadow Systems, there’s no way I’ll be able to swing anything over $200. With the non-cash price of the gun itself ($20 more than the cash price) plus the transfer fee ($30), I’m already at $730. Plus I gotta get a holster, which even though I’ll go with/prefer nylon, will STILL be $45 from Craft or Falco Holsters, & finally probably another $20-$30 on a decent cleaning kit.
Considering the “Secretary of the Treasury,” aka “Da Boss” is/will ALREADY be pissed about me goin over $800, I need to minimize the blowback to the best of my ability! After all, as we all know, “happy wife, happy life!”
i dont like swampfox they suck and do dumb things like put the battery where you can’t reach it… never had any issues with any vortex products… i would go with vortex or holosun
Optics Planet has the Vortex Viper for $200, which is high as I’m willing to go. According to Shadow Systems’ website, the Venom won’t fit their optics cut, but the Viper will. If I go with the PDP, I can go with either.
From what I saw & read, the Justice has the battery on the top. Not saying that’s the be all-end all feature though. Maybe I’ll just go with either the Primary Arms or the Viper. I’ve heard just as many good things about the PA as I have the Viper.
Bud, this is what I was trying to tell you with my earlier reply: they’re all really the same thing when you get down to it. I have probably close to 10 different brands of pistol dot sights…they all do the same thing and operate the same way.
Find the best deal you can for the footprint that’ll fit your gun with the features you want, there’s always one or another on sale somewhere, and buy it. Stressing and waffling over Brand A or Brand B or Brand C is just an exercise in frustration.
To me, if it’s a gun I’m going to be carrying or using for home defense, the reflex needs to have shake awake. If it’s not going to be for those uses, it doesn’t. Battery tray on top or side is nice to have, not really a dealbreaker though. Dot size, reticle shape, things like that, that’s all subjective. Everything else is honestly pretty gravy.
yes, i love primary arms microprism optics both the 1x and 3x pretty much blow my mind. as for pistol im not really the rmr dude but i haven’t had any issues with my vortex venom so again would probably just vote for the vortex… or holosun i dont own one but heard enough good things from people i dont think would lie.
