Western slope. . . where "Colorado" and "California" aren't just spelled different

Well there doesn’t seem to be a “Colorado Hometown” Likely because there are really 2 Colorados.
One is the one where everyone wants to go hunt elk, the other was taken over by Californians (Known as the “Denver Metro Area”). As I have little contact with the Colorado/California part of my state, I thought I’d start a “Hometown” for those who didn’t pack their Che Guevara tee shirt and move from California to Denver in the last 5 years.

I am a Colorado native who has lived and worked in the grand valley for the last 35 years. I shoot, hunt, Ice fish, and work. . . with a bit of gardening worked in.

Thought I’d start with some home town photos. . .

It is sad when people flee the rot they created in california and then vote the exact same way in the new state.

Yep the way Californians vote when they get to a new state is like people with a dog that isn’t house trained , moving to a new house to get away from the smell of dog pee. . . . . but taking the untrained dog with them. :man_facepalming:

Went to the range today. Not the new one in Cameo but the old range out behind the airport. I saw Don is still alive (If you shoot much in the grand valley you have likely met Don) Same old Don, telling stories, banging the 500 yard steal with a new project gun, and amazing new shooters by letting them shoot (And hit) the 500 with his rifle. He sure does a lot for shooting. You can hear some amazed outburst and know Don has helped someone else make a shot they never thought possible.

Anyway. . . .I was there to sight in my new sights on my Flintlock. No click adjustments for me. . .this involves drifting with a hammer and elevation adjustments with a file!!

Here’s a short video, sorry about the sound, I was sighting in so of course the wind was up.

I’m originally from the suburbs of Chicago, so I can attest firsthand that gun control doesn’t work, “local control” allowing towns to enact regulations over and above state law leads to confusion, coercion, unjust prosecutions, and that gun laws in general are an infringement on unprohibited persons.

I left home at 18 for Phoenix, and school. It was in Arizona that I learned what “public land” and National Forests were. I was in love, and knew my destiny lie out West.

Cliff note version; finished school, moved to Seattle, when Seattle was cool. Left after six months for a good job in Illinois. After 10 years there, I was off to the Northern Neck of Virginia as a DoD contractor for the United States Navy working on prototype weapons and weapons systems. After 8 years there, things did not end well for me during the Great Recession, and I ended up in Colorado working for Union Pacific.

I love Colorado. I absolutely do. I live in the Foothills, and if I didn’t have to go down to Denver for work, I’d never go down there. What’s currently happening in our State makes me absolutely sick. I’ve written our “representatives”, and I use that term extremely loosely, because they don’t represent me. I’ve written the governor, it’s all a waste of time.

I love exploring Colorado in my Jeep, or on my ATV. I love ghost towns, mining ruins, water, and getting away from people. Check out some of my photos in this months giveaway contest. A lot of those were taken in my driveway, or while I was out and about.

I can retire in 15 years. It’s a ways off, but it’ll be here before I know it. I’m currently trying to figure out if I want to retire here, further inland in Colorado, or in Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, or Alaska.

When I say I, I’m automatically including my wife and two boys, 17 and 14.

Glad to see other like minded people here :+1:t3:

It’s amazing there are two types of “Transplants” Those like you who see what is great about the west and those we see in Denver so often, they just want to change the state to be just like the one they ruined and left.

Rural and urban are two different realities. Mega-Cities a different world from the state they are in.

@SeanGadhar Nice video, and impressive intro slide, and shooting.
I see you have a Savage SMLE! I just saw that on Forgotten Weapons, very jealous.

I also have a Canadian Lee Enfield and two Ishapore 2A1 Enfields in 7.62×51mm NATO

My sons grew up shooting them from the age of 9 or 10. Now I have to reload the .303 back then surplus .303 was dirt cheep.

Went shooting today with my mom. I sighted in my Romeo 5 and Juliet 3 Sig combo at 50 yards on my 300 Blackout pistol.

I’m not a sniper or sharpshooter, but I think I did pretty good.

My mom is 71, and shot her fathers .22 rifle, which meant the world to me , my Sig P320 9mm full size, and my Ruger GP100.

115gr 9mm, 130gr 38 Spcl. First time she’s ever shot a gun, and hit on target 99% of the time…even at 50 yards with the rifle.

It was a day for memories.

What a great day! good for her for getting out there with her fathers rifle.

My wife is a heck of a pistol shot, loves her Ruger SP101 We aren’t “old” yet although it’s not so many years off for me, while my wife is 23 again this year (Same as always) if you ask me her age :smirk:

If she would shoot just a bit more I think she would show to be a great shot, as it is, shooting 2 or 3 times a year, she still often out shoots me at pistol. . . . even with my own pistol!!! LOL

I was born in denver, mom moved us to albuquerque shortly after. I would often come visit with dad when he was still alive, and when I was stationed at Ft. Riley, I would come often to spend time with my best friend. I used to live here back in 04-05 before I joined, and I currently moved back to I could use my G.I. bill for school- and holy smokes its an entirely different world now, and I stay the hell away from denver at all costs. I am still re-learning my environment, just went on an elk hunt with a buddy from school, and after getting over covid I gotta say walking up and down the hills was quite the challenge. I still love it here, regardless of the masses, still looking to move further inland to the mountains once I can get things lined up. Haven’t been shooting, still researching the laws here, I’d hate to get reported so I avoid the gun ranges- been looking to head to the mountains to sight in my new M4 upper I got from psa a month ago. just wanted to say hi, I know the hassle of dealing with commiefornians, or the straight up city slickers with no common sense. really missed it here, hope you guys are safe in this crazy state.

Always point a trail camera at your tree stand, just incase someone tries to eat it while you are away. (The red arrow points at the straps to my tree stand that this bear is dinning on)

A regular visitor at my folks place in Colo. Breaks my heart to see what a liberal political cesspool they’ve turned my old home state into. It was a great place to grow up many years ago.
