The PS-31 Binocular Night Vision Device (BNVD) is a cutting-edge, compact and lightweight dual tube goggle designed to replace the legacy PS-15. Among dual tube night vision goggles, the PS-31 stands out as one of the smallest and lightest. It can be equipped with various high-performance US-made Gen 3 image intensifier tubes. Developed with direct input from U.S. operators, the PS-31 enhances system resolution, significantly reduces head-borne weight, improves center of gravity, offers additional operational utility and boosts overall situational awareness with a 50 degree field of view for maximum visibility in the field. These auto-gain-capable tubes adjust brightness according to ground conditions. The PS-31 BNVD features independently pivoting tube housings, allowing use in either binocular or monocular configurations. Using both tubes simultaneously enables depth perception, making terrain navigation and operating devices like control panels and door knobs easier. Monocular configurations facilitate transitions between various lighting conditions, essential for battlefield operations. Additionally, the pivoting tube housings allow the goggle to be flattened against the front helmet surface when stowed, creating a lower profile that enhances operator safety and extends equipment life.
