Account / Purchase Information

ATF Account Creation

One of the necessary steps to purchasing a suppressor online will be setting up your ATF E Form Account. You’ll want to migrate to eforms.atf.gov and create an account. You will use this account to certify your Form 4 in a later step.

Fingerprinting Locations

Digital or Physical? Thankfully, you can choose what works best for you. If you have fingerprinting kiosk local to you, you can get fingerprinted and upload an electronic copy of your fingerprints through an EFT file. Search for locations near you below. Can't find a location? Purchase a kit here and mail it in. We also have fingerprints available at our Retail Locations here.

Trust or Individual Filing?

One of the biggest decisions outside of purchasing a suppressor is deciding how you want to file. Do you want to file as an individual or as a trust?

CLEO Notification

Once your Form 4 has been approved, Capitol Armory will Notify the CLEO on your behalf.

Form 4473

You will still file a 4473 Background check, but this time it will be completed online through DocuSign.

Choosing The Right Suppressor

Compatibility

Figuring out what size suppressor to use is a pivotal first step. Do you want a dedicated suppressor, or one suppressor to rule them all?

Attachment Method

Dead Air, Rugged, SilencerCo or Huxwurx - all with unique mounting options. Don't want a Quick Detach system, don't worry, there are plenty of direct thread options.

Sound Reduction

A suppressor cannot make a firearm completely silent, but it has significant sound reduction benefits, such as protecting your hearing and reducing disturbances for wildlife and nearby shooters. Suppressors can reduce noise levels by up to 40 decibels, like taking the sound of a jet taking off and reducing it to a motorcycle revving.

Purpose

Lastly, determining what you will use a suppressor for will help you decide which one to choose. Suppressors are ideal for range shooting, home defense, tactical training, and hunting.

Suppressor FAQ

Pre-Purchase

What is a suppressor (silencer), and why would I need one?

A suppressor, also called a silencer, is a firearm accessory designed to reduce the noise and muzzle flash when a gun is fired. They are commonly used to protect hearing, reduce recoil, and minimize noise pollution.

Which Suppressor Should I Buy?

Choosing the right suppressor depends on your firearm, caliber, and intended use. Here are some key factors to consider:

Caliber Compatibility – Suppressors are caliber-specific but can often handle multiple calibers.

  • Rimfire Suppressors – Best for .22LR, .17HMR, and similar small calibers.
  • Pistol Suppressors – Designed for 9mm, .45 ACP, and similar handgun rounds.
  • Rifle Suppressors – Built for .223/5.56, .308, 6.5 Creedmoor, and other rifle calibers.
  • Multi-Caliber Suppressors – Versatile options that cover multiple calibers, great for those with multiple firearms.

Thread Pattern – Ensure the suppressor's threading matches your firearm's barrel threads.

  • Most rifles use 1/2x28 (AR-15, 5.56) or 5/8x24 (.308, 6.5 Creedmoor).
  • Pistols often use 1/2x28 (9mm) or .578x28 (.45 ACP) with a booster (piston device)

Intended Use

  • Hunting & Precision Shooting – Look for lightweight and quiet models.
  • Tactical & Home Defense – Opt for a durable, rapid-attach model.
  • Range & General Use – A budget-friendly, all-purpose suppressor may work best.

Still Not Sure? A multi-caliber suppressor is a great all-in-one solution! Popular options can handle everything from 9mm pistols to .308 rifles.

How do I buy a suppressor?

You can purchase directly from the website. After checkout, Capitol Armory will guide you through providing the necessary documents (trust documents, fingerprints, photos, etc.) for the ATF Form 4 process.

What do I need to purchase a suppressor?

You must be at least 21 years old, a U.S. citizen/resident of a state where suppressor ownership is legal, and able to pass a background check. You can file as an individual or with an NFA Gun Trust for future suppressor purchases, read more about trusts here. Fingerprints and a passport-style photo are required for ATF submission.

Can I get approved if I have a misdemeanor?

A misdemeanor doesn’t automatically disqualify you, but it depends on the offense.

I have pending criminal charges—will that affect approval?

Pending charges may cause a delay or denial of your Form 4. The ATF may require that charges be resolved before approval. Consult legal counsel if needed.
