The PS-31 Binocular Night Vision Device (BNVD) is a cutting-edge, lightweight dual tube goggle designed to replace the legacy PS-15. Among dual tube night vision goggles, the PS-31 stands out as one of the smallest and lightest. It can be equipped with various levels of high-performance US-made Gen 3 image intensifier tubes. Developed with input from U.S. Operators, the PS-31 enhances system resolution, significantly reduces head-borne weight, improves the center of gravity, offers additional operational utility and increases overall situational awareness with a 50 degree field of view for maximum visibility in the field. These tubes feature auto-gain capability, adjusting image brightness based on real-time conditions. The PS-31 BNVD boasts independently pivoting tube housings, allowing the user to switch between binocular and monocular configurations. Using both tubes simultaneously enhances depth perception, making it easier to navigate terrain and operate devices such as control panels and door knobs. The monocular setup facilitates smooth transitions between varying lighting conditions, essential on the battlefield. Additionally, the pivoting tube housings enable the goggle to be mounted flat against the front of the helmet when stowed, creating a lower profile that enhances operator safety and extends equipment life.
