Features
A robust vise is essential for any gunsmith's workbench. A reliable bench vise is crucial for securing a complete firearm or its subassemblies, allowing for proper positioning during work. After extensive research, we identified a German manufacturer capable of delivering the superior engineering and manufacturing quality required for a vise that can handle the most demanding tasks. We believe the Brownells Gunsmith's bench vise meets these requirements exceptionally well. The 4-3/4 inches jaws are precisely aligned with hardened steel faces, accommodating various magnetic jaw inserts tailored for specific tasks. These jaws are exceptionally strong, capable of withstanding significant torque without flexing, making them ideal for removing stubborn barrels. When installing a new barrel, this vise provides reliable support. The jaw span measures 5.9 inches. Recognizing that even the best tools wear over time, the base jaws are designed to be unbolted and replaced. These jaws are also reversible, offering a choice between a smooth face or a checkered texture, depending on the task. They can be easily swapped for different jobs. Additional jaw inserts are available separately, allowing you to purchase only those necessary for your specific work. The Gunsmith's bench vise can be directly bolted to your workbench or you can select from several rotating bases, available separately, for added flexibility. The vise's size is ideal, large enough for major tasks but not oversized for gun work, ensuring it does not occupy excessive space on your bench. The green finish pays homage to the classic Brownells multi-vise, continuing the tradition of quality and reliability. Practically, this protective coating also shields the vise's surface from corrosion. We are confident in the strength of our Gunsmith's bench vise, but we acknowledge that accidents can occur. Therefore, this vise is backed by our lifetime guarantee. Regarding strength and meticulous German engineering, the steel used in firearms is extremely hard. In contrast, cast vise jaws are relatively brittle and prone to breakage if they contain microscopic flaws. Our vise's forged jaws provide additional strength. The drop-forged guide tracks feature fully machined surfaces for smooth, precise movement, offering excellent clamping depth and a long service life. These guide tracks are designed to resist fouling. The centrally positioned spindle features a double-action, rolled trapezoidal thread for enhanced strength and optimal clamping force distribution. The spindle assembly is electro-galvanized for superior corrosion resistance. The precision spindle bearing is protected and even the guide plates are drop-forged, with the spindle nut itself forged for added strength. The spindle key is constructed from zinc, with riveted safety rings made of steel. The spindle guide can be adjusted via a single, centrally located screw.
