Features

The Brownells BRN-180S complete upper receiver developed in collaboration with PWS and FM products, represents the latest advancement in the BRN-180 series, drawing inspiration from the Armalite AR-180 of the 1960s. While sharing numerous components with the BRN-180 , the BRN-180S introduces significant enhancements to reliability and usability in a compact configuration. Featuring a fully self-contained recoil system, the BRN-180 can be attached to lower receivers without the need for a buffer tube, facilitating compatibility with folding stocks and rear picatinny adapters. The recoil guide rods and buffer can be easily removed from the rear when detaching the upper receiver from the lower. The bolt and carrier can be effortlessly extracted by removing the charging handle at the rear. A large ejection-port provides convenient access for cleaning. The lightweight barrel profile is housed within a slim handguard resulting in an exceptionally lightweight assembly, even with the piston-driven system. The top picatinny rail is positioned notably low compared to other piston systems, ensuring broad compatibility with standard AR-15 height optic mounts and sights. The barrels are equipped with a .223 Wylde chamber, accommodating a wide range of .223 Remington and 5.56x45mm ammunition. The free-float M-LOK handguard is easily detachable via a single large screw located at the bottom of the receiver. This screw engages the rear of the barrel, securing the handguard tightly against the receiver. The removable handguard allows for swift access to the BRN-180 gas system.

  • The AR-180 piston operating system is engineered for ultra-reliability and is fully compatible with existing mil-spec AR-15 lower receivers
  • The receiver and handguard are constructed from machined 7075-T6 aluminum and feature a hardcoat anodized finish

Local Law Compliance

Certain firearm parts and accessories, including AR-style upper receivers, are subject to complex and frequently changing federal, state, and local laws and regulations. While an upper receiver may be lawfully sold and shipped as a component, the legality of possessing, assembling, configuring, or using an upper receiver in certain states (e.g., California, Washington State) and localities depends on how it is assembled, combined with other components, and ultimately used. You are solely responsible for ensuring that any assembly, configuration, possession, or use complies with all federal, state, and local laws, including any so-called “assault weapon” bans and short-barreled rifle restrictions. We do not provide legal advice and are not responsible for unlawful configurations or uses.
