Do we have an updated time line on the steel case ammo production? Last I heard 7.62x39 was supposed to come out in December and 5.45 in march.
last i heard they were starting to tool up for steel case. I am unsure of what caliber and a timeline, of if it was just rumor at this point. hopefully itll be on the shelf asap.
They are working on the 30cal steel. They just released 5.56 in steel. Steel case is a trickier case than brass due to it being not as malleable.
I see 7.62 out of stock on the website but I’m not seeing the 5.56

I haven’t seen it by itself yet
Please tell me this isn’t 80 cpr lol
That factors in the cost of the plano case also. It likely wont be that expensive in 20 rd boxes.
I have empty cans. Just need boo-lots.
Yeah, cost of everything went up coincidentally with the installation of Chy-nah Joe
I cannot even fathom how much $$ it is to start up and ammo plant and yes, steel is tough to stamp and then it has to be polymer coated to prevent rust. That being said, before FJB I bought 200 round boxes of Federal .223 at W-Mart for $59.99. Tula steel was $3.99 for 20rds when it was on sale (ever other month) at R-King.
Can’t reload steel, but if it is cheaper than brass, I’m shooting steel. Game/precision/match grade is the exception, but I have had good luck with steel.
Tula is approx 2700FPS, what does AAC steel fly at?
I think the AAC SS is reloadable.
Edit to add: I did some digging and they are re-loadable.
It’s 30cpr higher than the same load in brass. The reason everyone is asking for steel case is it’s cheaper to manufacture than brass. I’m just confused why its prices so high.
It’s SS rather than standard steel case. If it’s a 300 series stainless it would also be non-magnetic.
Answering my own question - AAC steel case 5.56 55gr muzzle velocity 3,175 FPS. And yes as Rufus pointed out, Stainless Steel. This AAC SS 5.56 is high quality stuff, not cheap. Not a good choice for plinking.
The stainless steel case weighs less than brass and may ultimately replace brass ammo issued to soldiers due to weight savings. A typical soldier carries at least 7 30rd magazines. SS ammo would allow another 30 Rd magazine (8) for the same weight as 7 loaded with brass ammunition.
I saw another brand SS .5.56 55gr at 3,340fps. - $36.99 for 20rds. $1.85 per round. Ouch!

The ammo you people are talking about is ammo loaded using two piece shells produced by a third party Shell Shock Technologies. It requires specialized reloading equipment for the home reloader. They claim high reloading counts but making two part shell is always going to be more expensive than a shell drawn from a single piece of metal/
I’ve been waiting on AAC 7.62 for awhile now… I had over 3000 rounds beginning of 2023, I know only have 500. I only buy wolf/tula.
Hopefully soon! I waited a long time for the Micro Dagger, I think I have some patience left over though
One of the Shot Show videos mentioned this…If I remember right it is the 7.62x39 and they were “Proofing” the load and reliability before it goes into full production…if I remember rights LOL
The SST is not steel case. It’s a nickel alloy body with a steel base. And the cases are made by Shell Shock Technologies, not AAC, hence “SST”. The description is entirely incorrect on the product page.
@Ahab its on their own website that it is SS…
