AK556 Doesn't feed

OP, i’ve got lots of good news!

It might not be too late to chuck it back to PSA, and get a WBP. But also, you’re not the first person with these issues. First up 5.56 AK mags are a clown show. Some mags are just trash, but even good mags might not work from one gun to the next. It’s just AK things… I’d recommend biting the bullet and getting some ((10)) mags (plus they will look good with this rifle). It sounds like you are getting light strikes, and that to me is totally believable because PSA has had plenty of 5.56/5.45 firing pin issues. But this isn’t a hard issue to fix, and you can probably do it without sending the rifle in.

Like guitar guy said, pictures would help your cause here…

Here’s a bunch of threads i found relating to what sounds like the same issues.

I replaced my recoil spring with a mcarbo enhanced spring. Cycles steel no problem. I have some wear on the bolt but before adding anything. Had light primer strikes also on red army ammo which is gone now.

My fix was replacing the firing pin on all 3 weapons. I measured the overall length of the PSA pin which came out to 3.265, the factory spec is 3.284. So my pins were short by .019. Replaced all 3 pins with surplus Polish NOS pins from Apex. Have since run 500 plus rounds through all 3 rifles without any hiccups.

I ordered a longer new polish firing pin for my new GF5. Now it functions fine with golden tiger. Barnaul wasn’t an issue. The other problem was trigger guard/mag release too far forward. I had to sand the mag well opening. Only mag that fit was theirs. The circle 10s still don’t fit well. They hit the cross piece/ rivet aft of mag well.

I took the firing pin out. I didn’t see any debris whatsoever inside the channel but I went ahead and blew compressed air through it anyways. I then dropped the firing pin back in and added a few drops of hopps gun oil down the channel and shook the bolt back and forth a bunch to work the firing pin back and forth. And I haven’t had a single light primer strike since. I’m around 1300ish rounds in on my rifle and it’s been flawless since. Maybe worth a try for you and other people experiencing this?

They sent me a new firing pen and it’s running like a dam clock.

(this comment is kind of hilarious to me, because its obviously a widespread issue, if im referencing his comment as a fix)

I’ve seen a few comments, in the Facebook group, about it, but nothing that would indicate anything wide spread. They all said replacing the firing pin, with a comblock one, fixed it. I keep a spare pin in my range bag, but so far my GF3 hasn’t needed it.

Well unfortunately Tula started getting light strikes, confirming likely firing pin issue.
(OP did not solve the issue)

Another sample of more of the same…

Yes they shipped out guns with firing pins that were too short

Since you are looking for wear, i will post my bolt. I dont own a 5.56 because i hate money, but it should give you an idea. This is out of a SLR-105 (Arsenal/Tula 74) with 500 rounds. All AKs will initially show what looks to be a highly visible wear in before slowing down. PSA has a very good video if you wanted to see more. https://youtu.be/Q4HLfn_DiTg?t=381
