AR rail types?

Anyone think keymod is still a viable option for SHTF rifles?

If you have a bunch of other Keymod stuff, maybe? But I don’t see Keymod on any new rails or nearly the number of options for it now. Unless you get a screaming deal, I think you’d probably be better off to avoid Keymod. It might even be better to take the money and replace an existing rail with M-LOK.

Keymod is dead and has been for a few years. The industry by and large adopted mlok.

Thank you both for your input!

True, but I may or may not have a screaming deal for an upper with the BETA of VCR fame inbound for a boat trip next Friday.

Alright ya got me, what is that? lol

An upper with KeyMod. Better attachment system similar to BETA vs. VHS.

This is the report that more than anything else ended the rise of Keymod and ushered in the era of M-LOK.

TL;dr: M-LOK was more durable and had more repeatable mounting.

If you’re trying to stockpile rifles or just uppers for backup/sharing, and you get some really good deals, maybe, but I don’t often see Keymod stuff at prices significantly lower than equivalent MLok. One exception being furniture I have seen pretty low-priced Keymod furniture a few times.

Well sounds like I’ll be changing out my existing forend then. I’ve had a rifle with keymod for a long time that I never really used much until recently. When I first bought it I bought a vert grip and a small section of rail for a future accessory that I never bought. Just recently got back into the rifle and scoped it out but was unsure about the Keymod

I do. It may be a dead platform, but on the existing rifles i have, which include a daniel defense v4m11 in mil spec + that i had bought at the height of mlok/keymod, i feel that its a moot argument. when i bought that rifle i bought the accessories to go with it, and well im not going out changing things around just for fun. its setup, i like how it is, and itll stay that way… now if i am building a new rifle, thats when it matters… and thats when i go Mlok… it is just as it is. Keymod may not be what everyone ends up using now, but its still good to go on what you have already, and so be it. thats how i feel about it anyways.

That’s actually the same rifle I have with keymod. I just didn’t go buying all the parts when the getting was good. I have a lot more M-Lok stuff vs the 2 Keymod accessories I have

awesome!!! welcome to twinning!

im not gonna change my keymod though… if anything i’ll just buy picatinny rails if i need them to fit the keymod, and go from there… it was good enough for DD to put it on their rifle to begin with, its good enough for me to run with until i destroy that upper totally… which if you know me, will never and i mean NEVER happen.

May or may not be getting a KeyMod BCM Upper next Thursday or Friday. Some may say it’s got a horrible paint job but I really like it. Looks to me like @rockymountainjeep 's Casper gun only battle worn and of course different caliber and mounting system.

You are right, it was good enough for them. I will take that into consideration before dropping the 350 for their mlok rail!

yeah thats how i think about it. i’ve never had a problem or an accessory fall of any of my mlok rails, so i dont see a problem keeping it on there… if they start failing well then i’ll look into it.

I’m surely not gonna put 5210 rounds through in less than 20 minutes.
