What’s the bore diameter of the KS47 barrel? Is it .308 or .311?
Does anyone make an 18” mid length gas Barrel that would work in the KS47?
Would a standard rifle length AR15 buffer system work or do I need to stick to the 308 carbine setup?
I believe the bore is .308, but I’ve got an email out to verify.
I’m not sure about compatibility with other barrel companies unfortunately, but I’m sure there are a few people in here who know. We have a bunch of KS fans on the forums.
If it is a carbine buffer assembly, it will be the Pa-10 carbine spring with and our H buffer from the factory.
Thanks Josh for the help.
I’m looking to get either the essentials kit and/or piecing the assembly from what I have and getting the rest from y’all as I can afford them. I have a standard rifle length buffer tube, spring, and AR15 rifle buffer and am wondering if those would work or if I need to switch to a .308 setup?
This is the buffer and buffer spring we use in when we put them together. As for other products, I’m not entirely sure. I have this thing against all things 7.62x39 that makes me not remember much about them to be honest. I think it has to do with all of the headache I went through as part of the team trying to get our AK-47’s going from the beginning. But as I said in my last post, we have a lot of really knowledgeable people on here. Off the top of my head I know @iznthesky is a wealth of knowledge about the platform.
Welcome to the Forum Llyod, I have not done this myself so everything I say here is just conjecture. I found you a barrel that would work in theory, linked below. There are a few youtube videos of people using non-PSA 7.62x39 barrels and it seems to work. This one below is not going to have the large single feed ramp that PSA cuts into their barrel extension for additional reliability, but it should run. I don’t know your experience level but whatever you decide to get, I would run go-nogo gauges in it after its all together. If you’re putting your own barrels on, you probably already know that though.
I don’t think I’ve heard anyone talking about running anything other than a carbine length gas system here (in a KS47) yet but there is no reason it couldn’t be done. I believe @robholland1911 is running a rifle length buffer system on his carbine length gas system no problem. A mid-length gas system and a rifle length buffer system would probably run buttery smooth but I would use an adjustable gas block (.750) to get there.
Is there a specific reason why you want to go 18 inches? I just want to point out that if you’re in it for the increased velocity, you’ll likely be disappointed. The difference between 16.5" and 18" in 7.62x39 is shockingly low. I will provide a source below.
Anyway, good luck and keep us posted on your build!
Hey Lloyd. On my 16" KS-47 I am running 16" BCA barrel. I had a gunsmith friend do some Dremel work on the lug between the two feed ramps, to make it into 1. I am also running a carbine length buffer tube with a rifle length buffer spring and a KAK variable weight buffer, using 2 tungsten and 1 steel weights. I settled on this set up since the factory spring and buffer set up caused the charging of the weapon to be very “heavy”. Now, the charging is more in line with an AK and the recoil, while still more than a 5.56, is still very manageable. I have had very good results from this set up, no FTF or FTE. If you don’t want to order the KAK buffer, you can still just order the weights and use any Mil Spec buffer (it’s cheaper ) Good luck.
