I send my KS47 upper back for repairs about 4 months ago. While patiently waiting for it to be sent back I assembled a KS47 upper from a builders kit that I bought. I used a Green mountain barrel and Troy hand guards.
My question is what buffer and spring combo will I need? The assembled Ks47 lower that I bought came with an ar10 spring and H buffer. It seemed like the KS47 barrel was way over gassed, shooting it the recoil was more like shooting an AR10 than an AK or SKS. I understand that the Green Mountain barrels are more moderately gassed. So will the AR10 spring work?
On a build of mine, with a Bear Creek Arsenal barrel, I used a rifle length buffer spring and a KAK variable buffer. I’m running all 3 of the tungsten weights. Was out shooting today and had 100% reliability and very soft recoil.
Thanks for the information everyone. I’m going to try it as is with the h buffer and ar10 spring. I have ordered a adjustable buffer and a wolf extra power rifle spring. Just encase I need to do some fine tuning.
This sounds like a good idea. Just for clarification, did you use an AR10 rifle length buffer spring, and was the KAK variable buffer a rifle length buffer? Im not familiar with those.
I used a AR-15 rifle length buffer spring. The KAK variable buffer is a carbine length buffer. To be honest you can use the buffer you have now, but simply replace the weights in it with tungsten weights (3). With this said be aware that every gun is different, so you might want to experiment with different length buffer springs, but this set up has worked well on mine.
Hi I just started a ks-47 build starting from a stripped lower & upper the info here is very helpful are you using a rifle length buffer spring in a carbine buffer tube? Any pointers is appreciated
Dave,
Welcome. I’m not sure if your question was directed to me, but it seem to be so that’s how I will answer it. I hope I don’t come off sounding grandiose.
Yes, I used a rifle length buffer spring in a carbine buffer tube. I also used a variable weight carbine buffer for my set ups. PSA uses an AR-10 buffer spring and a H2 (I believe) buffer. I found this set up to dramatically ease the amount of strength it takes to charge the weapon after a mag change.
I have a 10.5" PSA factory that I added a Devil Dog Concepts Hard Charger side charging handle to and a 16" which combines a PSA lower, a Gibbz Arms G47 side charging upper, and a barrel and furniture from a BCA 7.62x39 AR.
Any questions just ask, the folks here are awesome and aways willing to offer help and advise.
Thanks, I’m sure I will be back after the holidays with more questions this is my first build so I just want to do it the right the first time around. I have several parts coming in the next few weeks to get it going.
Hey Rob,
I’ve been looking at doing a drop in Geissele G2S Trigger in the ks-47 I’ve read some threads from others saying drop in triggers won’t work because of clearance issues with the magazine release any truth to this? In any case any recommendations.
If I’m not mistaken, the G2S is a two piece trigger, which means it should work. The triggers that won’t work are the cassette style drop in triggers, because of the leg of the paddle release spring not allowing them to sit flush in the lower. There are people who have modified various drop in triggers by grinding a notch in the housing. Another great option is the PSA Custom 3.5lb curved or straight bow drop in triggers, as the already have a notch for just this reason. I have several and IMHO they are one of the best kept secrets out there.
I installed a Schmid 1005 NiB 2-stage in mine. It’s my preferred trigger swap and usually available for about $60 from the nice B-folks out in Henderson. I found it to be lighter and smoother than the PSA that it came with…
Hey Rob I did a KS-47 build a few months ago I just got out to the range last weekend and had nothing but light primer strikes with Tula I’m running a psa 3.5 curved trigger and upgraded the firing pin to a blackrifle enhanced firing pin. Everytime I chambered a round it would fire and it will cycle to the next round but when the hammer falls nothing but light primer strikes. Do you think it is the hammer spring in the psa trigger is to light can you change the spring in that trigger? Any info is Appreciated
I had to replace the 3.5lb triggers in my KS-47s. I, also, was getting a lot of light primer strikes with them. I posted a thread in the PSA Custom tread about and showed a picture of the drop in trigger. While the springs are replaceable, they have a bend in them, and I don’t think a heavy hammer spring will work without putting a bend in it as well. I am planning on trying this, I just haven’t gotten around to it yet. I don’t think this will increase the trigger weight, but I am concerned it might. These are such great triggers I am hesitant to do anything that may take away from their performance. I’ll keep you updated if I can get it to work.
