Dagger Disappointment

I got a new Dagger about November 22, took a look was pleased with what I saw and put it away for a few days. I figured I would swap out the trigger and connector just because I favor the Glock style trigger over the hinged type. Well I go to break the gun down, no issue I was an armorer for several weapon systems commonly used in law enforcement, so I familiar with the process. I get the appropriate sized punches to remove the roll pins. Rear pin removed, no problem, front one, here is the problem, it’s missing. This is pretty critical since it holds half of the locking block in the frame. This could have been bad, but I figured since PSA has such a great warranty I will just call them and have them send me the roll pin. I am sure I probably had something that would fit, but I didn’t want to create a warranty issue if there was a problem down the line. Anyway I call the customer service number and explain my issue, The rep says he can’t send me the part, the gun has to be shipped back. I was a bit dumbstruck, but I was sure there was a reason for their process. Well they got me set up with a return label without any issues, the gun arrived on November 26, got an email confirming they had the gun. About a week later I got another email confirming they got the gun, now I was curious. I called customer service and asked if there was an issue and the rep explained, no it just got to the repair area that deals with the Daggers. So between that call and two unanswered emails and another call on December 16th I still don’t have my gun back. I suppose I am a little more flustered because on my call with the rep she put me on hold and went and spoke with someone. She came back and told me it should go out early next week, you should have it pretty soon. Well here I am December 22nd and no gun. I needed a spare 9mm so that when my kids came home for Christmas I would have enough for everyone when we went to the range, apparently I will have to borrow one. The kick in the pants is that after I sent the gun out I looked through the PSA parts list on line and found they do sell that front roll pin and the rep was mistaken, this is my luck. I have a few PSA AR platforms and have been happy with them, I thought I would give the Dagger a try, well that didn’t quite work out for me, for a little more I could have bought a blue line Glock.

I’m really sorry to hear about this. I’m going to PM you to get some information so I can look into the repair, and I’ll also see what I can find out about where the information came from about the return timeframe and why they wouldnt send you that pin.

IMHO one shouldn’t be disappointed, if they received their PSA Dagger in complete, perfect operating condition. If one ‘chooses’ to modify it - most, if not all warranties state that unauthorized modifications immediately void the warranty. I realize that gun afficianados wish to upgrade, customize their weapons to suit their tastes and for competition purposes, etc. I fully support this, but once they disassemble a fully functional firearm, for the purpose of modifications, especially with aftermarket or other manufacturers parts, they are outside of warranty protections. I do NOT speak on behalf of PSA, I am just saying that one shouldn’t be disappointed. I applaud PSA for helping folks resolve issues, however. They are building a quality product, stand behind it forever, apparently. One could not ask for more. I own two PSA rifles, and may accessorize, but would never consider modifying it with the expectation of PSA being responsible for my rendering it inoperable as a result of my decision to alter it. I trust that PSA built it to function for a lifetime under normal operating conditions. I my military experience, I depended on my weapon as issued, and that it would reliably function as advertised.

Apparently I wasn’t clear, it didn’t come with the pin in question. My disassembly is what caught the missing part and potentially hazardous situation. In my military and law enforcement careers I made sure my equipment was in correct working order, fortunately being able to attend military and law enforcement armorer schools. Thanks for the input.

Most of the time I read a thread and resist the urge to put my two cents in. This is because folks like yourself know far greater than I about gunsmithing, armoring and shooting than I do. I guess that I have read so many times on the Forum about folks having issues similar to this, and that I personally have witnessed through this forum that the good people at PSA back their products and support their customers above and beyond their expectations. They have donated parts assemblies to enthusiasts to help them complete or improve their projects. I get a little defensive of our friends at Palmetto State Armory. I spoke, but wish I’d forever held my piece…:rofl:

I understand you already sent it back, but is there a chance it could have been in the box? There were some issues with pins walking with earlier releases.

Probably a stretch to think it fell out during transit, but stranger things have happened.

More than likely just a simple mistake made by a factory worker pulling long shifts trying to help PSA get caught up with holiday season orders.

I’ve never heard of a Dagger locking block pin walking out. The Dagger pins are tight. I can’t fathom how a pin would just fall out in transit. It was simply never installed.

Hey ATF man, Merry Christmas, i can tell you with certainty that it was not in the box. I checked thinking maybe someone was going to put it in and forgot, alas no luck. This was the pin in front of the trigger pin, a roll pin. I agree this was a mistake by someone trying to do their best, I am not mad at PSA nor am I trashing their products, I think your assessment is correct, it happens. Made good contact with PSA through this forum and think things will work out fine. I am still a little disappointed in my call with customer service having to return the gun but they said they are looking into that as well. In the scheme of things not the worst issue I have ever suffered. Merry Christmas to all, and to all a good night.

I was doing a trigger job on an S&W model 19, once, for a state prison guard. It was a brand new gun, and my practice was to dry-fire one at least 500 times, to marry the parts, before starting work.

I did so, and it had a pretty typical factory trigger. I started to take off the side plate, and the screws were a bit easy to turn, so something told me to tighten them down first.

I did, and the revolver was locked up like it had been welded together. I took the side plate off, and after checking everything, found that some yahoo at Smith, instead of fitting the hammer boss (the bearing surface on the side plate), he had just left the side plate loose!

Now, that was deliberate act. He was lazy, and hid his laziness with a loose side plate.

So here’s the scenario that played out in my head: Guy gets a new revolver, takes it to the range, and it shoots great. He takes it home, cleans it, dry fires it a bit. And tightens everything down before loading it and putting it in his duty rig.

That’s a scary thought.

Sorry to hear about your experience.
My 2 Daggers are bck with PSA for warranty work.
I fired 15 rounds out of one which resulted in trigger pinwalk.
Both pistol barrels had bad machining marks on land and grooves. One was fired, second was placed in safe.
PSA requested aI return both and provided RMA. PSA confirmed they received pistols on 12/23/21, via email.
I hope to have replacement pistols soon.

I have no doubt PSA will do the right thing. Top pic is from safe queen, never fired.
The dirty pic, is from 15 rounds.
I’m not bashing PSA, the gun is very comfortable, affordable. I was hoping PSA would have sent out replacement barrels, they wanted complete pistols returned.
Not sure if they make barrels in house or contracted out.
Cause could be simple as incorrect speed or worn out, out of spec tool during manufacturing.
