Enhanced Magazine Release Lever for PSA-AK-104

I love my PSA AK 104. My son has PSA AK 103….and together we shoot quite a lot. I wish my AK had a Great Mag release similar to my KS-47.
The existing mag release is Okay….it works it’s reliable….but it leaves a lot to be desired.

Adding an Enhanced Magazine Release to PSA-AK-104 was an easy….the SECOND time around.

Originally I simply pushed the original rivet through the trigger guard, removed the original mag release and pushed the new rivet through the new Polish Radom ($14) enhanced mag release.

I really loved this new release. It makes magazine exchanges so much easier. My only dilemma was that I didn’t like my rivet job. The new rivet was precisely the length that it was supposed to be……for a professional to install. Iam no professional. I installed it and it has worked fine….but it also has bothered me since I installed it……worrying that it may come loose at any moment. Since I have no skill with rivets……my work around was to use an AK trigger pin, since both are the same diameter.

First I pushed the rivet through& removed the rivet

Then I tapered the tip of the trigger pin slightly to make it easier to push through the mag lever……cause I was going to have to insert & remove it several times for fitting.

With the Trigger pin in the drill press, I used a dremel to gently remove the shoulder that holds the trigger pin retaining plate.
(You don’t need to remove the trigger pin retaining shoulder……I just removed it to make it more of a lower profile).

Measure your rivet and mark the trigger pin for a very slight groove that you are going to cut in order to place a c-clip / e-clip in that groove.

This is not precision work so err on the short side……I had to extend my groove twice until I got it perfect to install the C-Clip.

Once you get the C-clip correct, then cut the trigger pin off close to the c-clip groove.

And……SHAZAM ! !..……A no rivet Enhanced magazine release lever.

The fit is perfect, and no more nightmares of my mag release failing me because of my poor rivet work.

And the fact that it’s a trigger pin adds a curious “Cool” oddity to my AK.

This stuff is supposed to be fun…….Right ?
