Is the 5.7 Rock extractor held in place by a screw or a pin. If a pin, how is it removed? The extractor in my pistol would benefit from some polishing but I can’t figure out how to remove it.
It’s held in with a roll pin. It’s not easy to remove, requiring a special tool or a punch bent in the correct way. I do not suggest removing it.
Eureka! Someone actually knows what the slanted hole on top of slide behind the ejection port is! When I called PSA and a few of their retail stores no one knew!
Can anyone tell me the difference between the trigger and what the hole in the forward center of the barrel are for??? OMG
The trigger is for firing the firearm. The hole in the forward center of the barrel is for the projectile to escape.

Matt, where can I get this special tool?
You’d have to make it. But there’s really no reason to remove the extractor.
I’ve put 2 to 3 thousand rounds through my Rock and it was chewing up the case rims and failing to go fully in battery occasionally. It appeared that the extractor travel was being restricted. I had tried cleaning it with compressed air but wasn’t successful.
Removing to extractor turns out to be simpler than I thought, all you need is a pick, a small punch and a large (I used one that was 1⅞” long) paperclip. Straighten the first section of the paperclip and then bend about ⅛” about 120 degrees. (See pictures) Hold pressure on the center of the extractor and push the pin back with the pick then push the pin with the paperclip till the extractor is free. No need to push the pin all the way out. When reassembling, be sure to drive the pin all the way in. I had the striker housing out when I did this, but it shouldn’t be necessary for removing the extractor.
There is a plastic spacer inside the spring which limits the travel of the extractor. (See pictures) It doesn’t take much trash in there to clog things up. I really wonder if the spacer is necessary.
My first, early Rock does not have the plastic buffer inside of the extractor spring. My second, Rock purchased later does have the plastic buffer inside of the extractor spring.
Thanks for the info. I think I’ll try running it without the buffer the next time I clean it.
I removed the extractor on my 5.7 Rock and polished the front face of it. Also the spring tension on the extractor seems to be very heavy so I removed the plastic buffer and have fired 200 rds without problems. Polishing the face of the extractor seemed to help the extractor snap over the rim of the cartridge with less effort.
I know that a similar buffer was added to the AR 15/M 16 extractor to control bouncing of the extractor. But so far there has been no problems with the extractor on my 5.7 Rock bouncing or engaging the case rim.
