FAIL! Magpul PMag 35 EV9 mags in CZ Scorpion and AK-V

Has anyone had issues with the Magpul EV9 Scorpion mags not working in either of these platforms? In my Scorpion, I get FTEJ 50% of the time and in my AK-V, the mags either won’t lock, or if they do, the feed lips cause interference during dry cycling with snap caps. I didn’t want to try live ammo in the AK-V since the EV9 wouldn’t even lock reliably. All 18 of my EV9 mags were purchased when they were first released and have a date code of 10-19. When I switch over to factory CZ mags and PSA U935 mags, the guns run flawlessly. The cause of the stoppages in the CZ and not locking into the AK-V appear to be due to the differences in the ejector designs, in that the locking block on the EV9 magazine is too low, causing over-insertion in the CZ resulting in magazine interference during cycling, and not locking into the AK-V due to the EV9 feed lip contacting the ejector of the AK-V. I’ve reached out to Magpul support, waiting to hear back from them.

Yes, many reports of them not working well. Also glock mags and ak mags.

My Magpul Glock mags never lock the slide back on the last round. My Magpul AK mags run fine except that one of them doesn’t allow the last round to be picked up. It’s a new mag so the spring must have been bad from the factory.

More so the design to be “universal”. But not every AK has the exact same tolerances, same with glock and glock clones.

I remembered that I picked up the EV9s from Brownell’s and that they have a lifetime guarantee on almost everything they sell, so I got an RMA to return them for a refund. That money will go into more PSA U935 mags!!

I don’t own either a scorpion or an AKV….nor have I ever seen their magazines…….but, 18 magazines is a substantial investment in mags.

If I had 18 mags that didn’t fit……I would sit down at the work bench and come up with a solution for them to work flawlessly.
Looking at a picture of them……they seem to have enough material at the magazine “catch” that you could gently remove some of that material to allow the magazine to lock in with a little less insertion depth.
This is just my opinion….I haven’t handled or examined these yet.
I have modded many magazines to fit & operate in guns that the mags were not originally designed to work in.
If you can get the Manufacturer to replace them….that would save the day……but if your stuck with them……we’ll it’s time to R & D one and learn to modify the mag for perfect function.
Good luck……post some pictures so we can see how this is getting along.

Magpul got back to me this afternoon and pretty much said yeah, you’re SOL. I got a non-answer on the Scorpion FTEJ issues, saying the mags are only intended to work in “Gen2 or later” (which mine is) and that the only mag releases supported are the CZ factory or Magpul. I have the Magpul release installed. They said the AK-V is not supported because the gun was released after they designed the mag. This is the response I expected and received. The mags are on their way back to Brownell’s for a full refund.

AR-V here failure to eject with Magpul mags. I think I’m going to try lightly sanding the top of a Magpul magazine. I suspect the bolt carrier is rubbing against the magazine causing it to short stroke. No problems with the provided PSA mag.

Magpul CZ mags are known to cause issues.

After I returned the Magpul EV9’s to Brownells, and because of the total success of the PSA U935’s, I decided to invest in more PSA U935 mags. Compared to Magpul EV9 mags, the U935’s are less expensive, more reliable, hold the same amount of rounds, have steel reinforced feed lips, and they work in all of my Scorpion pattern firearms. I have no reason nor need to fiddle around with perfection.
