Shot my KS for the first time tonight and had some issues. I cleaned the gun thoroughly before I shot it and ran Seller brass. All rounds got pinched by the bolt so ended up taking out the stock buffer spring and put on a RED sprinco buffer spring and had the final 5 rounds run and eject but seemed to have a weak ejection at about 2 o’clock. My 10.5” AR when ran in a stock configuration will launch them, this barely was able to push it out.
Anyone have any ideas what could be going on?
Hopefully I can get this figured out it feels great when it’s shot, just need to get the ejection issue solved. Any help would be greatly appreciated
Sounds like a gas issue. Is the gas block tight and aligned? Is the gas tube seating properly with the bcg?
I thought that too but had already packed up and left for the night. I left the gun at my work since I know I’ll be messing with it tomorrow. I just did a basic diagnostic and a good cleaning today. I’m hoping it’s an easy fix like that. The tube seemed aligned the bolt rides on it just fine and doesn’t seem to be hung up or not aligned but I can’t say for sure until I take the rail off and look at it. I know the set screw is tight but that’s it.
All I did was run a few rounds through it, change the buffer spring -saw that the change did help ejection but didn’t seem very strong ejection and called it a day.
Make sure you don’t have a piece of trash in the gas block/tube. Sometimes a burr is left after drilling the hole and it or copper/lead can get in the block or tube.
I’ll check for that tomorrow thanks for the tip
I used a springco spring and a Spike T2 buffer in my KS47. Works great. I also added an adjustable gas block, topped with a thermal scope it’s my go-to hog rig!
What color did you end up using? I use a blue with an H3 for my 10.5” 556 upper I got from PSA - but that has the gas block pinned and was a premium upper.
This KS I just used the red sprinco I had lying around and was going to use an H2. But now need to make sure the gas block is where it needs to be before I start messing with buffer weights now.
It’s weird the gun will fire and feed but the bolt pinches the spent casing on ejection, so that tells me the gas block isn’t on straight or there is debris blocking the hole for gas or the AR10 stock buffer spring is too stiff and the red sprinco is just barely good enough which is why it ejected but was very weak. I’m going to check gas block tomorrow and install a regular white carbine sprinco spring tomorrow.
The next time you can shoot at the range……take a friend with you. Have them shoot the gun…and you take some “close-up” slow motion video with your phone. Concentrate on the ejection port area and take another slow motion close up of the gas block area when it’s being fired.
You will be able to see several key actions that will help you isolate what the problem is. You should see a strong exhaust stream coming from the exhaust port holes on the side of the bolt carrier. If it’s weak…it’s a red flag. You should be able to see the extraction, the ejecting, the chambering and if the bolt carrier is traveling rearward sufficiently. A video of the handguard & gas block area will reveal tell tale “white smoke” if gas is leaking at the gas block.
A good close up slow motion video is a valuable tool to help you find the culprit of your action malady.
Good luck……share with us what you learn.
I used a rifle length buffer spring and a KAK variable buffer which I have tweaked to 2 tungsten and 1 steel buffer weights. Both my 10.5" and 16" run great now and it is much easier to charge now.
Hey having the same issue with ks 47 gen 2 rifle just got it last week. Did the same thoroughly cleaned and lubed the gun. Went to the range did my ocd break in. Swab barrel every round for 10 rds then alternated every 2,3,5,10. Started with s&b brass 140gr. Went to norma tac brass 124 gr. Jammed every round. Meaning brass was staying stuck in extractor while the ejector was fully extended. So my spent brass was falling in the chamber from shock of the bolt or staying in extractor at a 20 30 deg angle and hanging up in side of receiver. I contacted customer support. They want me to send it in. I had an idea that it could be just a burr or edges of extractor was really sharp. I know gen 1s were having issues. Im assuming the gen 2s have toolcraft bolt and extractor? So maybe they beefed it up? Expect ppl to shoot steel? Idk. I took an empty steel casing i wouldnt attempt a live round. Be safe. Floating enhanced firing pin. U could have an accidental discharge. Be safe. Cycled the bolt with empty casing about 30x. Checked it every 4. Either way now my empty brass shells are ejecting properly. Will prob run a couple steel cased through rifle b4 i attempt brass again. Anyways i plan on contacting psa and talking with them anyways. Hope this helps any psa reps? What are your thoughts? Happy shooting everyone.
