I acquired a very lightly used GF4 / AK-104 today. It is stock as it came from PSA. It has the railed dust cover with a Sig Romeo mounted on it. I noticed there is a little vertical play in the dust cover, nothing side to side, but just up and down. I am curious as to how that will effect the accuracy. I have a WASR-10 that I put a TWS Railed Dog Leg on, and that thing is rock solid. No movement at all. I have also heard that a loose dust cover makes a more accurate AK. What is the real world experience with this? I know I need to just go shoot it and see, but I was looking for anyone who has hands on experience. Thanks in advance
I have a 104 also using the Sig red dot. Make sure the internals are seating correctly. I dont have any vertical play in mine.
I’ve never seen an Ak with a dust cap that doesn’t have a little play. Sure it will affect accuracy a bit, but IMO the platform was never meant to shoot flies, lol. You should still get pretty decent performance.
You’ve never seen a zenit railed cover then!
Ha ha
I’ve got one… Rock solid… but HEAVY
The TWS on my full size AK has zero play!
Yep… that was my plan b if I couldn’t source zenit stuff. That was probably 12 years ago though . I like the tws stuff too
I have the TWS and like it a lot. Have a heavy Stiener T536 on it and it handles it fine. Do NOT forget the blue threadlocker on it though. Don’t ask how I know, lol.
