Hey guys, I’ve had my AK-V for a month now and love it. I’ve seen a lot online stating that their AK-V jams when fed hollow points. Has anyone had success using hollow points? If so, what are you shooting and how many rounds have you shot without failure? I’d rather test out something that is already working for others. Thanks!
I’m testing IMI Diecut Hollow points tomorrow and have some X-Def Hornady loaded ones coming later to try out. I will post the results. The only thing I have seen mentioned is that the ones with polymer inserts filling the hollow point, do better.

The IMI 124 grain Die Cut Hollow Points ran without a single malfunction, so they are good to go. Fired off a 35 round mag of them (just one since I’m not rich). I’ll report when I get the others in, how they do.

No problem, I will shoot the Freedom Munitions XDEF (Hornady projectile) when I get them in and report on it.
I just bought some 135 grain hollow points from lax to try out. will let you guys know once i’ve had a chance to test.

Same here, I’ve tried a ton of FMJ with the only thing being problematic was some Monarch 115 grain that I got stovepipes on. The AK-V is just plain fun to shoot.
Yes indeed. I also have a PSA AK-103. Also a blast to shoot. And a little easier on the wallet. I’m glad to see the prices finally starting to come down. Hopefully that trend continues.
Anyone ever used jacketed soft point ammo? I keep seeing magtech 124 grn soft points on sale for 60c a round. Wonder if they would function as well as JHP as a defensive round?
I have not tried JSP, but there is always next paycheck. 
I’ve used Magtech FMJ with no issues though. My other go to is my GF-3, but my range requires brass ammo, so it really doesn’t cost any less to shoot than the AK-V.
davisbilly - I wondered the same thing. I had googled jsp reviews and what i found online indicated that they don’t expand well compared to jhp.
I’m really interested in how 147 grain run. Haw anyone tried those?

Are you talking HP or FMJ? I think I have some FMJ I can try, but the next HP I have coming in are 135 grain. I’m kind of curious myself, so I will have to add it to my next order.
That’s kinda what I was afraid of, Rusty. I supposed it’s better than fmj, though. No experience with 147 grn. Highest I have tried is the 124.

Thanks, Jason! The lower velocity 124 grain probably wouldn’t perform well at all in that test. The AK-V is such a good home defense setup. It’s one of my go-to guns for that. I guess the best thing to do is test until you find that perfect hollow point that your specific gun likes. It doesn’t seem to be a one size fits all solution based off of the comments I’ve read. Mine has ran flawlessly with the 124 grn. Fiochi HPs. But what gun nerd doesn’t like more ammo testing? If I come across anything else I will post the results. The info is much appreciated.

Just got back from testing Freedom Munitions XDEF 135 grain HP and had no malfunctions. It’s a Hornady projectile, so they should perform similar.
Next up is Freedom Munitions 147 grain HP, but not the fancy Hornady XTP version. They don’t guarantee brass cased for those (could be nickel) and my range requires brass. Anything else that won’t break the bank that anyone wants to see tested? I’m beginning to wonder if I have a cherry AK-V as I haven’t run into the HP issues others seem to have. Only ammo I’ve had trouble with was some Monarch 115 grain that liked to stovepipe.
