From what I have been told from the Revolution to the Civil War my ancestors were laborers, carpenters and share croppers.
Some got into the transportation business (they had horses with a cart) 
Also to note that I am aware of there are no known conscripts or draftees in my ancestry. We willingly wanted to shoot someone.

IMO-After the defeat of the Nazis in War 2, the rise of Communism in academia and in the Federal Government bureaucracy those two met in America and produced the Democratic National Party.
Now we have this instead of the Swastika and the Sickle and Hammer.
