Will see how it worked tomorrow but looking promising

I’m thinking that wood looks like elm or ash. I forget whom, but someone on this this forum works in hardwood resale.

I’m diggin the grain. About five more coats on the furniture

The grain on that wood sure looks a lot different than the grain on my M49 Walnut stock. It looks more like Oak to me.

I stated that earlier and splinters like oak when the hole was drilled through the stock. But I’m ok with how it turned out. It was enjoyable time on the bench start to finish. The receiver/lever was challenging, l got about 90% black coverage to 10% gray. 7 coats of oil on the furniture…l did 3 more not 5 so it’s done to just sit and cure.

Looks great, don’t be picky about the receiver, wouldn’t have been able to tell if you didn’t say anything.

Thank you very much sir l appreciate it. I was hoping for a better presentation but it is what it is. Acceptable for a gift to a young shooter. 3 on the left is gifts, the one on the end is mine. Still hunting a butt plate for the 158.

It looks good! How well do you expect that Birchwood aluminum finish on the receiver to hold up? Mine still has a decent finish on it, because I haven’t shot it much since my youth.

I don’t know how it will wear but if touch up is needed hopefully it will be simple. I think the receiver has been re-painted at some point.

Found another one! And this one is complete

Mine would have held up too if my older brother didn’t sell it when I went off to basic training. Had the rifle and matching single shot lever operated break barrel 12 gauge. Paid $71 for the set around 1975 when I was 15 years old. I’ve already told this story on the forum, but back then, I walked in the store by myself and they sold them to me, nary a grown person with me.

Back then you could see shotguns or rifles in the rear glass of a pickup…in the parking lot at school…with a pocket knife in your pocket!

So got a dangerous trigger on this little Ithaca. Ordered parts that was available (would have liked to order a new hammer and pin too but sold out). Listed new trigger but l know it’s not, clearly see a little wear. Pin is new.

Kevin, please reach out to me. I have reason to believe this is my son’s stolen gun. Thanks

Thank mod. I was confused there for a bit. A little excited atm. The gun was a Christmas gift to me from my father about 50 years ago. I gave it to my son couples years back. His house was robbed and all guns taken. There is one distinct feature on this gun that ours had. Cant imagine many like it.
