Mag release button WAY too hard to press

Just came from PSA, went to purchase a compact dagger. Everytime I gripped the gun the mag release would dig into my middle finger, and it’s very sharp. No way am I buying that gun. They need a fix. I can’t believe they went into the handgun business and copied the wrong Gen Handgun.

Question? Are you left-handed or right? I ask because I’m left-handed and have rather large hands for my size and have no problems. I shoot off-handed a lot and the mag release is not an issue there either. The geometry doesn’t match your comment.

How are you gripping the gun?

Righthanded

Right hand with left had covering. Mag release is very sharp and pointy

I could see that happening if you have a thumbs down, or really aggressive thumbs forward grip. Both ways I can feel my mag release, but I swapped mine with a Vickers and it’s rounded. I do dislike the factory mag release for several reasons, lack of texturing and sharpness being two of them. Last one is the thread’s title.

Its not a complaint PSA has often and probably can be fixed with a little sandpaper. Without trying it myself i dont know what else to tell you.

If that’s your issue, don’t buy it. Move on. It’s an extremely small issue. It’s easily fixed multiple ways. It’s actually not even an issue and it’s simply personal preference. But if it affected you enough to dismiss the purchase, I’d find something else because you’ll never be happy with the Dagger.

That’s what I did, I passed on it. I only replied here because others had a similar experience.

it “SHOULD” get easier after use. Noticeably easier after a range day.

Yeah not sure what the issue is here. IMO the anyone who got a bad dagger got a bad dagger or just needs to practice mag changes. I just played with my dagger, canik, sig, and Springfield and the dagger came in 2nd best for mag release. But hey maybe I just got lucky.

Hand size changes that a lot too. The button is way stiffer on both my Daggers compared to any OEM Glock I’ve ever used. The geometry where the spring bends against is different. The button is also not chamfered well on the edges and has no real texturing. Meaning I have to shift my grip to consistently release it.

Slightly extended release like a Vickers solves the button being hard, cause of leverage, and I don’t need to shift my grip.
All 3 Daggers at the store I’m at are the same way too, for me. Tried a Kiger/SCT19 frame with an OEM Glock release in it, don’t have that issue.

Its far better out of the box than glock 19 gen 3 and 5. And correct after using, it wont ever be as smooth as a beretta 92 but its still not bad imo.
I have break my grip on every single pistol besides my beretta to actuate the mag release anyway tho.

You make an excellent point. Fit and feel of any mass produced firearm will feel different to each individual.

I know this is two years later, but here is a clear answer, and a low cost remedy.
In July 2024 I purchased a Dagger Full Size S frame, and a SW3 slide. The now-legendary difficult to access, painful to push mag release is still a thing.
The very simple remedy is a Glock #1981 OEM extended release lever, and the standard Glock Gen 3 5lb spring, not the 2.5lb spring.
These two pieces are readily available on eBay and cost less than $20 combined, including shipping.
With these two parts installed, the longer, grooved lever is easily accessible, and is easily activated to eject the magazine.
The swap takes about 2 minutes to complete. Problem solved.

Holsters still work?
