Mecgar mags, anyone got these working in their dagger?

Like the title says I’m wondering if anyone has found the secret sauce to get these really nice looking mags to stay in their daggers. I recently purchased 2 for the full size-s model and 4 for the compact, but all fall out of the gun when fired. I have done a side by side comparison between them and oem glock magazines noticing the following issues.

1: the mecgar base plate angle causes a 1 degree difference in angle versus oem glock

2: the mag catch area is ginormous and the rounded edge does not allow enough bite

3: the angle of the bullet is tilted further down

I have installed a new catch spring today [dagger oem] and am waiting for fedex to drop off my aluminum mag release from cross armory as I type this. [Part just arrived lol] I believe with a stiffer mag release spring they would at least stay in place. I can’t find anyone making a stiffer spring, although s.s.i. makes a sleeve to stiffen the oem one. If you guys have had luck getting the mags to work please post what you have done. I will update my progression asI test various solutions.

Update: installed a new mag release spring and set it slightly deeper with a punch, installed the new aluminum mag release. I ran 3 mecgar magazines through my compact with 0 failures. Unfortunately I’m out of ammo until my bulk order from psa arrives later this week… stay tuned for more info

I’ve not used them, I use oem glock mags in mine. They work fine. Mecgar is a quality company so I don’t know why they wouldn’t work.

I’m assuming its the dimples holding the mag in are rounded and larger combined with the grip angle of the dagger frame being slightly different and the mag having an extra degree of forward tilt. They wouldn’t work at all with the factory polymer mag release, they would insert fine and lock in but would drop out if fired. I did set the new spring a tad deeper which seems to pull the aluminum release in slightly further. My daggers love glock mags but I have had a few get chewed up, including one of my g17/tyrant cnc +5 mags. Also I have 3 daggers and it was the same for all 3..so I just ordered 2 more mag buttons on psa website from cross armory.

this is the first issue i’ve heard with the mecgar mags in the daggers with the mag drop button not grabbing enough. glad that the metal ones you ve ordered have fixed the issue.. as was mentioned, MecGar is a quality manufacturer, so im surprised to hear of any issues with them.. glad you got it ironed out to run though.

I was surprised as well, as I run mec-gar mags in my Girsan m9a1 clone and have never had issues before. There is a couple sights other then this one that have stated the dagger and other clone frames have been having issues with holding them in place when fired.

yeah i use mecgar in my 1911s, and havent ever had issues… i think Tisas, uses mecgar solely as their factory mags.. that they send with every weapon.

If you’re reading that on other sites, and other folks are having issues with them like you mentioned, it would appear to me to be a mecgar manufacturing issue, to have each mag just a hair out of spec when compared to standard glock mags. but that spec is taken up by what you did to fix it. so in the end it may not even be a “out of spec thing” itcould be simply a tolerance stacking thing. idk.. just a thought.

That was my thoughts, I never thought it was a frame issue. Personally I love my daggers. The mag just finishes the look, so I really wanted to get them working. Don’t get me wrong the 15rd glock mags coceal better and work fine but for an extended this is a much sleeker option imho.

I had a chance to hit the range today and test the mags a little more. I put an additional 150rds down range and had no magazines fall out of the gun since the upgrades. I will say they need a good lubing to prevent ftf as the 2 that I didn’t lube up had a couple ftf issues, but the ones I did lube performed perfectly.

One thing to watch is those mags can over insert and damage your ejector. They do not have the ledge that prevents this from happening like other Glock compatible mags do. They rely on the base to prevent it.

So, don’t put the Glock 17 version in a Compact Dagger frame. Only the the Glock 19 version.

I did see that as well and will be sure to post any issues i run into . Although I only intend on running the designated magazines per gun. I will say the g17 flush fit mags in the full sizeS frame fitment seems better then oem glock, while the g19 seems slightly looser in my compact over oem,

Can you insert the wrong one into the compact frame without the slide on? And visualize how hard/easy it is to get it close to the ejector?

It would be interesting to know how far it does go. And I was wondering if it actually could interfere with the trigger bar.

I can check tonight as I do own both versions

Sorry I only use the ones that work, lol… Magpul and Glock OEM

Thanks for your helpful post.. By the way, they do work but require a different mag release button just like every other steel glock mag that has been manufactured. The only reason they have issues as advertised they say it isn’t needed.

Sorry, didn’t mean to offend you with humor… thats the problem with forums, everyone just wound up too tight and can’t laugh at stuff…

I can laugh at anything, and didn’t get wound up bud. There wasn’t an ounce of humor in your statement. Having an online argument isn’t what I’m here for. I only want to share info to those who care to learn. Anyways enjoy the rest of your evening and I will enjoy mine.
