Everything I did not like about the FN , the horrible sights, trigger or the grip that feels like you are holding a 2x4. The Rock is easily the best choice for me. I feel like the Rock is leaps and bounds beyond what the FN could ever be, and all of what the Ruger should have been. Wonder if PSA will ever entertain building a carbine like the Ruger. Imagine a Rock like 2700+ FPS carbine, for under $1000? makes me moist ![]()
Have my fingers crossed for a PSA 5.7 carbine.
I have a Ruger 57 and a Ruger 57 carbine. The carbine is amazing. I ordered a rock 57 today (and a jakl). Can’t wait to get them in. Hoping they ship out tomorrow.
I mean the ruger carbine is under 1k and runs great with rock mags. I’d love to see a PSA one, but they’d have to slide in with an MSRP of about 700 to compete I’d think. That being said the ruger carbine does unfortunately have the ruger trigger, so take that as you will.
I’ll probably buy one no matter what, because ■■■■ money and I guess I gotta catch 'em all.
I just got the HE407k GR X2. I saw that the 507k required the screws to be filed down before installation. Is that the same for the 407k? I haven’t been able to find anything but I assume it is.
The 407k & 507K are exactly the same in every way except for the emitter/reticle. Shortening the screws is easy.
Yes.
After 3 days of being closed, while UPS had my new Rock , my FFL was open today and I got my new Rock / Holosun package. He offered to instal my Holosun for me and of course I let him. Now I see issues about screws and so forth. He had no trouble installing it and all seems fine although I have not yet test fired it. I was happy to see my NERD OWB holster has no issues with the optic installed. Hoping the screw length isn’t an issue for me down the road.
The factory Holosun screw length will bind on the Rock trigger housing ( which is plastic ) and cause failures to extract and may actually damage the housing as the screw pushes against it as the slide moves back and forth. I’d advise shortening them before cycling the slide too many times.
OK, I will check that out.
I can see that for a individual purchase.
It would seem silly thought for BSA to sell me this as a complete package with parts that need modified. Nothing in the box or anything indicates anything needs cut to fit. That is why I bought the factory package, to make sure all fit and works correctly.
It may be silly, but unless PSA actually mounted the Holosun before shipping it to your FFL instead of just shipping you all the items in their factory original boxes and in factory original condition there isn’t any way for the shipping person to know that the screws need to be modified. So the only way to know if your Holosun mounting screws are shortened is if the ends were clean rather than the factory black or to measure them. I only found out after reading a review here that installing the Holosun with the factory length screws caused failures to eject and the poster had to shorten them slightly since when installed they were longer than the thickness of the top of the slide and pressed against the trigger housing which slowed down the slide travel.
A more recent poster indicated that the screws actually dug into the top of his trigger housing causing damage.
I suggest you remove one screw and measure it. If it’s 8mm long, that’s the factory length and needs to be shortened to 7 to 7.1mm.
Silly may have been a poor choice of words. I will do so for sure.
My point is they must have tested this out before making it a factory package for sale as one unit.
Why would PSA NOT advise users about that issue with the screws?
Do they offer a different plate or such in this kit that is not in a retail purchaser of the holosun?
If this is a fact on all these kits, BSA is going to see a lot of problems soon , based upon how fast these sold. I doubt many are reading this post.
It would be nice to hear from them a little more specifically on this Rock Package before damage is done.
I agree with you 100%. It appears to me that while PSA designs and manufactures fine weapons and accessories, they are like a Big Box store as far as the nuts and bolts ( or screws ) are concerned. The packages they offer are just a combination of factory packaged accessories.
You can see from an earlier comment that the screw length issue also applies to their Dagger Pistol which had been on the market for a quite a while and apparently there is no warning regarding mounting the Holosun on it either. I guess it’s Buyer Beware. Until enough purchasers are required to return their Daggers and or Rocks to PSA for repair ( hopefully under warranty ) due to damaging the trigger housing by installing the Holosun supplied factory length mounting screws, you won’t see any Warnings supplied and I don’t see them ever providing a shortened screw since I’ve been unable to find a 7mm long small head M4 Torx screw anywhere and I don’t see them modifying the Holosun factory length screws themselves.
Trigger housing? I bought the Holosun 407K @ the Greenville Store and had it installed there. I took mine apart and inspected due to the posts on the Dagger thread and sure enough upon disassembly the 2 plastic pieces that the screws would impinge upon were both chipped. 2 little pieces fell out. I’ve never had any issues though. I guess I’ll replace them whenever parts become available. I’m not a gunsmith or whatever so I’m not familiar with the verbiage associated with the parts inside the slide, but I wouldn’t call those 2 pieces a trigger housing assembly. Striker Housing maybe?
Any idea on what the size and thread pitch are on these screws needed to mount the optics? I just ordered 2 Holosun HE 507K-GR this morning for my 2 Rocks. Need to know what the size is so i dont screw something up while trying to install.
Your questions are answered in the body of the thread. The exact length required appears to be unobtanium (M4 7 to 7.1 mm from post 31). I used a file, no metric mic or anything, just filed them down until they no longer protruded. No big deal, took maybe a half hour watching tv while I did it.
It’s an M4 x 8mm Torx screw, Small Head. There will be a pair included with each of the Holosuns. Just make sure you shorten it to 7mm. If you don’t feel comfortable filing down the screws you can buy a metric wire stripper that includes a metric screw cutter which I’ve listed in an earlier post.
If you’re worried about holding that small of a screw to file it run it through one of the adapter plates with masking tape and you’re much less likely to booger anything up.
So cut 1mm of the Holosun supplied screws?
Not sure where the 8mm is measured from but the overall length I received with the 407k is about 12mm not 8mm?!?
Probably thread length, but I’m just guessing.
