The M4 screws I received with my 507K were 8mm overall length from the top of the head to the bottom of the threads. I suggest you mount the 407K on the Rock and put a toothpick into one of the mounting holes until it hits the striker housing. Mark the toothpick at the top of the Holosun and you’ll know what the maximum length of the screw should be. Make the screw just slightly shorter and you should be good to go.

Here is a pic of these screws I received

0.471” = 12mm total out to out

From what I remember that looks longer than the one I had. I’ll look again hopefully this weekend.

Flat head screws are measured over all length.
Socket and round head are measured from under the head for length.
IE it’s the part screwed into the work piece that’s measured.

The screws between different sight models probably vary in length requirements.
Test fitting then trimming so nothing protrudes through the slide looks like the best way to do it.

My experience with my ROCK and the Holoson HS507K-X2 is as follows.
The first time I trimmed the mounting screws I did not have the dimensions mentioned here at my shop where I shortened my mounting screws. I just stuck my caliper in the mounting hole and made some quick measurements then shortened the screws on a fine bench grinder. Everything seemed fine until I tried to disassemble the slide to thoroughly clean it. I was unable to tap the striker shells out of the slide, they should tap out fairly easily. I had to remove the Holosun to get the striker shells out because the screws were still too long and were contacting the striker shells.
Anyway here are the measurements that I finally arrived at that worked for me.
My mounting screws ended up being just over 9.5 mm long. Any longer than 9.5 mm and they will just protrude through the threaded hole in the slide and possibly contact your striker shells.

The thickness of my Holosun mounting base is 7.1 mm So in my case trimming the screws to 7.1 mm would have resulted in them sticking through my Holosuns base roughly .2 mm Not nearly long enough to attach the optic properly. The mounting screws sit slightly recessed in the Holosun mounting base.

I come from the land of hammer fired beauty. What the hell is a striker shell?

Thanks for jumping on the grenade, I was wondering myself.

I think he’s referring to the striker housing which is located directly under that portion of the slide where the RDS cutout is and where the Holosun Mounting screw holes in the slide are also located.

Sorry, I sometimes make up terminology on the fly. Lol
I am indeed referring to the left and right sides of the all plastic striker housing that fits together like “shells” inside of the slide.

Picked up my Rock and 407k yesterday from my FFL- beautiful gun, the guys at the shop were geeking out about it when it came in:

(Not seen in the pic is the TLR-1 I added tonight, which is a perfect fit)

Regarding the optic screw length issue, I took the following measurements tonight:
•screw length (head to tip)- 12mm
•optic depth- 7mm (screws clear underside by 5mm)
•depth of holes on slide- a hair over 5mm (measured using a toothpick)

Trimming the screws to 7mm as suggested would make it unable to clear the optic itself, and the screws tightened flush with the optic without any extra force. Am I missing something here or did PSA maybe swap the screws? I noticed the optic came in an unmarked cardboard box, so not sure if that means they maybe repackaged it?

The unmarked box is simply OEM packaging.

Check my post above.

If there is more than about 2.5mm of screw sticking out below the optic they are hitting the plastic striker housing, unless the striker housing has been redesigned, which would be easy for them to do.

I guess that’s my question, whether or not anyone knows if the striker housing has been redesigned- when I measured the depth with a toothpick, I was getting a hair over 5mm, meaning theoretically the screw isn’t touching the housing anymore

I decided to pull my slide apart again so I could take some pictures that may help others to not make the mistakes I made when I mounted my optic.
This first picture is of the slide. The striker housing slides into the slide from the rear, and can be seen on the left side of the picture.

Here you can see the striker housing starting to be pushed out of the slide. You can also see the shiney tips of the mounting screws for the optic where they will protrude through the slide if they are too long.

Here you can see the two pieces that make up the striker housing .

Here the tips of the red paper clip I am using as a pointer are showing where the screws that mount the optic to the slide will hit the striker housing if they are not shortened enough.

Here is a side view of the damaged housing.

Here is a closeup of the optic mounting screws, where they come through the slide.

I am not a gunsmith, so use this info at your own risk. IMO I feel like the damage seen here is purely cosmetic. If the little strips of plastic that cover the rectangular void were not there in the first place there would not be an issue using the longer screws. I recommend shortening the optic mounting screws to 9.6mm if mounting the Holosun HS507K-X2 Another thing, remove the optic first if you decide to remove the striker housing from the slide.

If you pull the optic off, look through the screw holes in the slide. You should be able to see the imprint of the tip of the screw in the plastic striker housing if it is contacting it.

Same damage I had.

Any of you guys have experience with this? Looks to me like goodness.

Heard good things about Steiner, My only concern would be finding a holster that fits.

I mean, Steiner does a good job with stuff like thermals, but if it were me I’d go with an X300 at around the same price or a TLR-1 at half the price. Much more holster availablity, and I think lasers are fairly useless.

Try that in less than a minute with a mag change 25 yds. 8 rds the big hole was stretched. I’m sure the video at the PSA Greenville range could confirm
