Rock Optics

The Rock rocks!

Ive now got my 2 holosuns, meteric crimpers and digital calipers so i can trim the M4 screws to mount to both of my Rocks. My next question is did you need to use the spacer plate to get the optic mounted properly after trimming the screws to 7mm? Here is the Holosun i purchased for both 5.7’s

IIRC the 407 and the 507 are the same footprint. No plate was necessary on the 407

Thank you Rufus

I think my measurements are incorrect. I may have not measured from the top of the screw to the tip. I just measured the screws and they are just under 12mm in length from the top of the screw to the tip. I have a new RK1 optics ready slide being delivered today and will measure the exact depth of the hole from the top of the Holosun RDS to the top of the striker housing using a digital tire tread depth gauge to get the exact distance so as to get the exact length of the screw. I’ll post my results later today.

Here’s what I found. The hole is 3.4mm deep from the top of the slide cutout to the top of the striker shells. The Holosun base is 7mm thick so the maximum length of the screws so they won’t contact the striker shells from top to tip would be 10.4mm long. I cut & filed mine to 10.3mm to take into account any measuring errors and they fit just fine.

Thank you so much for the clarification on the measurements, otherwise I would have cut my bolts to short

Finally got everything done I really appreciate the help everyone offered

Filed the HS provided 12mm screws to 10.3mm and mounted the 407K today. Heard no “snap, crackle, pop,” so seems all is well. Will be bringing Rock to range to zero and ensure optic is securely mounted this coming weekend. Keeping my fingers crossed. Much appreciate your raising this issue in the forum and for confirming the measurements.

Did anyone else get the wrong size Allen wrench for their optics mounting

IIRC there was one in the carry bag for the plates and one in the optic box for the optic.

That’s the one I’m talking about. It came with the plates and it’s too big.

That’s for the plates. The one in the optics box has a straight blade on one side to zero and torx on the other for mounting.

Yes, It’s a star Allen wrench

The Allen wrench could be a t 10 , but the screws are not they are smaller

Mine are T-10. I would contact Holosun. Make sure you check the length before tightening them down. The factory ones are too long.

Yes I know that now, I have two red dots I thought might fit, but neither do. So I thought I put the screws back in the holes so I wouldn’t lose them wrong answer there so they’re back in the box I’m going to have to find me a red dot that works without it costing me an arm and a leg.

I’m confused. The allen wrench included with the Rock is for the cover plates included with the Rock. The tool that was in the Holosun box is not an L shaped allen wrench. It’s straight with 2 wings on the sides. There’s 2 different lengths of screws in the Holosun box each in a bag. File the longer ones down. Somewhere in these 5.7 Threads I think @Bigaltyson gave the screw size if you needed to get replacements.

The wrench included with the Holosun is a T10 Torx wrench. The 12mm long M4 screws included with the Holosun need to be shortened to be no longer than 10.3mm. 10mm would also work just fine. They have a much smaller head than a typical M4 Torx screw which would protrude above the top of the hole in the base of the Holosun. I have managed to find a source of 10mm long small head Torx screws. They are polished stainless rather than black. Here is the link Low Head 10mm M4 Screw - 10 pack (T10 Torx Drive) - Long Robotics. They are currently out of stock but sign up for an in stock notification and they will notify you.
