I’ll look on McMaster-Carr.
Call McMaster-Carr they’ll find it for you.
Good luck. I looked everywhere and Long Robotics was the only vendor I found with small head M4 Torx screws at all. They were out of stock when I found them. I signed up for the in stock notification. Was notified about 1 month later and got a set. Haven’t used them as I shortened the factory supplied 12mm M4 Torx Screws since I was tired of waiting
.
Understood, I’ve dealt with McMaster-Carr extensively in the past in a different world in which I worked, at different times I had to do 2 different CC transactions to keep me under the CapEx corporate radar. They’re good people to work with IMO.
Absolutely, I’ve bought from them on many occasions. There are none listed on their website. Don’t know if you might have a back door to someone in their purchasing department.
Unfortunately those times were several years ago I don’t have the company phone anymore.
The Allen wrench that I received with my upper is a T -10 the screws that came with it or a T-9. Now I just have the problem like everybody else does the screws are too long.
I’ve read everything in this thread with regards to the Holosun but trying to see if anyone has any experience with the Vortex Venom? Took the Rock out yesterday for the first time and it didn’t cycle a single round. I have the DR plate installed on the slide using the PSA screws that were initially used for the cover plate if not using a red dot. I then installed the Venom to the plate with the Vortex screws. I’m not sure about the length of the PSA screws but they are TINY. They are smaller than the screws that Holosun sends out. (I mounted the Holosun to a Dagger with only limited issues). Do ya’ll think the PSA screws that are sent for the cover plate are too long for the DR plate? TIA @sean.psa
If the cover plate and the DR plate are the same thickness, the screws should fit just fine. With the wright of the Venom being 1oz it should also cycle just fine.
Buffman Range says any MRD under 1.3 oz should function OK on a 5.7 pistol.
Haven’t seen any posts on problems cycling with the Holosun 507K and it is slightly heavier than the Venom. Of course, I don’t know how much weight the DR plate adds and which ammo you are using.
All adapter plates for the Rock weigh at 10 g or 0.35 oz. But adding an adapter plate would require longer screws as you still have the thickness of the red dot, right?
I believe the screw holes in the DR adapter plate are in a different location than the holes used to mount the plate to the slide. The poster said he used the mounting screws that came with the venom which should be long enough.
Since the venom is 1oz and the adapter plate is .35 oz, that makes the total weight slightly over Buffman Range’s recommended maximum weight of 1.3oz though that should still function at least some of the time.
I wonder if he used AE Ammo which seems to be the most problematic.
I used both Federal and FN ammo. Neither cycled.
When you say it doesn’t cycle, does it eject but not reload or fail to do both ?. Does the slide move to the rear at all after firing ?. Did you try it without the Venom attached and just the cover plate ?. If it still doesn’t cycle it’s back to PSA for repair.
Checking the Holosun specs, it’s also just 1 oz in weight. I’m wonderful if the .35 oz additional weight of the adapter plate is just enough to slow the slide down so it doesn’t cycle. If so, PSA really didn’t do sufficient testing with the various different red dots before they released the Rock and it requires a lower tension recoil spring.
I just measured the screws at 4.89mm from the outside to outside so I wouldn’t think that would be too long. Again, those are the screws that I used for the DR plate to the slide. I weighed the plate, Venom, and all screws and they total 1.4 oz.
By not cycling, I mean that when I fire, the round shoots but does not eject. I have to manually eject and chamber another round. I didn’t try with removing the red dot or plate, I left my tool kit at home by mistake. If I recall correctly the slide barely moved to the rear after firing but it did not eject, regardless if it was the Federal or the FN ammo.
I’m pretty sure I recall seeing the Rock sold with the Venom before. It isn’t sold in that combination now so I can’t confirm that.
The screw length should not impact cycling. They don’t contact anything inside the slide except the Striker Housing if they were too long and wouldn’t interfere with cycling if they did. According to Buffman Range, to get reliable cycling on a 5.7 pistol, the weight of the red dot should not exceed 1.3 oz. Since the Holosun like the Viper is also listed at a 1 oz weight but doesn’t use the adapter plate, it may explain why there are not many complaints about cycling problems with the Holosun. I am now of the opinion that PSA did not actually test the correct operation of the Rock with the different Red Dots that are supported by the adapter plates. If they did, then there must be a defect in your Rock and you should contact customer service.
Thanks for all the help. I am going to shoot it in the next day or two without the Venom and see if it works properly. If so, I’ll be contacting PSA to return the Venom and exchange for another Red Dot that can direct mount and actually work.
If removing the venom works and you go with a direct mount. Remember that the mounting screws that come with the red dot ( M4 size since that’s the thread in the top of the slide ) may be too long and if tightened down may actually dig into the plastic striker housing damaging it. You need to insure that no more than 3.4 mm of the mounting screws threads extend below the bottom of the base of the red dot. That’s how deep the mounting holes in the slide are to the top of the striker housing.
If it is the Venom causing the issue, what red dots will direct mount to the Rock? Is it only the 407k/507k or are there others as well?
Holosun 407K, 407KX2, 507K, 507KX2, Shield RMS and Shield RMSc.
Made it to the range again today. Rock fired flawlessly without the red dot on it. The Venom is clearly too heavy for it as well. I’ll be returning that and purchasing the 507k. I guess that’s what I get for trying to save a little money when the Venom was on sale.
