I did a search and did not see any discussions on the subject but if there is I apologize. I have been looking at the 5.7x28 cartridge lately and am liking it more and more. I would like to know if anyone has a Ruger 57 and if so how is it to shoot. I have plenty of experience with 22LR,38,9MM,45 and 357. I also have AR’S and a Tavor 7 chambered in 308. Comparatively speaking is the Ruger and the 5.7x28 cartridge in there somewhere or completely different? The end goal I have is to get the Ruger 57 and eventually an FN PS90. If anyone has any experience with the PS90 that knowledge would be appreciated also.
@GamecockOperator knows the ps90.
Haven’t shot the Ruger 57, but I have shot the FN FiveSeven. Barely any recoil but you’re paying an arm and a leg for ammo. It’s still on my wish list regardless.
ive both the ps90 and the fn 5 -7. both mine are in OD green polymer. I love the round and the two firearms. i’ve yet to try a ruger 5-7 yet but i would love to pick one up one day. also i’d love to pickup the 5-7 upper for my AR as well… oh well all in time.
I almost bought a Ruger Five Seven.
Then I started to doubt the capabilities of the cartridge as a viable self defense/mountain gun. So I didn’t.
Thoughts from those of you that own one?
Rockymountainjeep that is the same thing I have been struggling with also. I want to get a Ruger 57 but now I am torn between the DBX57 and the PS90. I have seen reviews on the DBX and I am liking it more and more. One day I am ready to buy it all then the next I talk myself out of it because of the scarcity and price of the 5.7 cartridge.
i like and want a dbx57 as well, but honestly if you go that route you shouldnt get the ruger 57 you should get the FN57 pistol because then both the dbx and fn57 will be able to use the same magazines.
Having owned the PS90 and not owning the dbx, i can only say i love the ps90 cause i am a big fan of bull pups to begin with, it shoots pretty dang flat, and is a blast to shoot. that said the dbx being as compact as it is and as configurable as it is, gives much more options than the ps90 does. so at this poin since i already have the ps90 id just add a dbx, if i had to choose between the two, thats a hard one, but i may just go dbx instead. although the PS90 does have a max ammo capacity of 50 rounds versus the current extended mag by promag for the FN57 is only 30 rounds so you can have a max of only 30 rounds in the dbx… thats if a promag works too… standard fn 57 mags are 20 rounders… so there you go… If i were you, id probably drop the hammer on the dbx…
Talk to buffman, I think thats his name. He’s a big 57 fan.
